what I like and don't like about my F-250 truck

This is my first Ford after having driving the competition for over 40 years. I have heard lots of good things from friends of mine that were Ford loyal. I bought the truck new in December 2010 and had it built to my option list. Thought I would list what I like and don't like about the diesel and truck over the 40 months of ownership. I have just passed the 160,000 kms power train warranty yesterday. Gulp! What do you like or dislike about your truck and what would you like to see on the new trucks.

What I like first:

- the look both inside and outside. Black metallic with adobe trim. Looks great clean and shined up. Inside lots of room in the crew cab.
- Like the back up sensors and camera. Great for backing up such a big beast.
- Power, definitely the power range.
- Gas mileage is actually pretty good for such a beast.
- Heated seats work nicely in the cold and the air conditioned seats are nice
in the summer time.
- Mirrors, great mirrors for visibility and heated for the top portion.
- Seat are comfy and adjustable, even with the moon roof.
- e- locker rear works nicely to get more traction at slow speeds.
- LCD display is a nice feature but could be more specific in some features.
- Driver's door open with keypad feature. When you don't have your key right
with you.
- Insurance costs were a bit cheaper with this truck than the 8 year Silverado
I had. Must be b/c of all the air bags in the cab as a safety feature.
- Dealerships I have dealt with have all been friendly.
- Power sliding rear window.
- Fairly quiet engine, especially for a diesel.
- 10,000 kms between oil changes. nice
- locking tailgate and step feature.
- How long the DEF lasts.
- the step bars to get into the beast.
- the 10 power settings for the seating.
- the rain guards I put on all 4 windows.
- the new aftermarket shocks I put on after getting rid of the crap FX4 shocks

What I don't like:

- tranny problems over time. After several visits got they got it right and
fixed the tranny problems. Although there are still some funny shifting
issues in stop and go traffic on the highway.
- radio problems affecting sync, bluetooth, and radio.
- Ford couldn't fix the radio problems even after visits to several dealerships
Ford actually gave up and said "We don't know what is wrong. I give up."
They replaced the radio and some other parts. (Weird thing is several
months later the radio worked without cutting out. Maybe a water issue.
- leak from the roof that runs down the inside of the cab on the driver's
grab bar.
- The cost of maintenance like oil changes, gas filters, etc. 14 litres of oil
yipes.
- auto hub feature is inconsistent and sometimes won't engage in the cold.
- No centre armrest. The storage centre works, just not as well.
- Back seat under storage works a bit but would like to see a better design
- windshield washer ***** know to rot out under certain conditions.
- a better way to stand on the front bumper to get into the engine.
- better door handles to open when it freezes. Not much grip or leverage the
way they are now.
- a front winter cover and a summer bug screen for the front.
- a better horn. In the snow it can act like it is on a muzzle.
- Back up sensors fail. Had to replace 2 different ones so far.
- a heated back sliding rear window. Wasn't available the year I bought.
Came out the next year.
- Door collect big hunks of ice on the inside front area of the cab.
- Weight of the truck. It is one heavy beast.
- My dreams that the tranny is going to break down or the engine will some
how get water into it and a huge bill to replace.
- No locking gas cap or DEF cap from Ford.
- Filling up the DEF with a huge 9 litre jug. They used to have smaller ones so
less spillage.
- the truck seems to almost always want to re-gen when I am pulling into my
driveway?
- How long it takes to wax the beast.
- Like to see power up and down features on both driver's window and
passenger window.
- bigger tie downs in the bed. With a Ford bed liner they are sometimes hard
to attach to cargo net or tie things down. Should have got the spray in liner.

There is probably more but that is what I can think of for now.

In 2013 they made the auto up and down standard on both the drivers side and passenger side. If you take off the grill you can stand on the bumper and its a lot easier, just have to make sure you don't hit the fins behind the grill. Theres more but a quick post.

sounds like you are doing well with this truck. no major issues. that's great. hope we all have as few problems, like waxing the beast should be my biggest worry.

my 2013 suffers from a radio error once in a blue moon. Upon start up I have no volume. Shut the radio off then back on and it is good. Very random.

That's all for the issues/concerns.

just upgraded from a 2008 6.4 liter twin turbo SD crew cab to a 2012 6.7 liter turbo SD crew cab.... gawd, I love this truck compared to my 6.4. My 6.4 was tuned and got 27 mpg highway not towing, and I wouldn't go back after 5 days in my 6.7!

I'd love auto up down on both fronts, any ideas on whether or not we can simply replace the switches with the 13's?
