OK. What is the deal with replacing the PCV valve on a 1990 F150 EFI 302 motor? I got the old one out no problem (as it pretty much fell out), but I cannot get the new one in. The grommet alone will go in, but there is no leverage to put the valve in. Do I put them together first and somehow put them in? Or do I have to remove the entire intake manifold assembly to get clear access to the valve cover? What is the trick here?
I have an 89 302 EFI that I have replaced the PCV valve on just recently. It will go in, but takes some persuasion. What I did was connect the line to it first and then put it into the valve cover. It took some work, but it went in
Hook up the pcv to the tube that goes into the intake.Put a little oil on the bottom of the pcv valve. The grommet should alredy be in the valve cover.Start the pcv in at an angle and push it in.It takes a little wiggling but it should go in.
I had the same issue installing mine. I bought 2 different sized grommets, not knowing which would work, tried to dry fit them & one was too lose, the other too tight. Stupid me decided to ream it out a bit to fit. That worked great before installing it, but after install it leaked oil like crazy. Through trial & error I found out you can throw it in a pot of boiling water to soften the grommet then press in the PCV valve, or install it & run the motor for a bit to heat up the grommet(if you don’t mind hot oil blowing out), then press in the valve. No hydraulic press needed 😂
