Doing a restoration on my 70 bump swb, thinking of running soft 8's, can't decide on size though 15,16,17. any thoughts? anyone used them? any pictures?
Any other ideas about comparable wheels. Really like the "muscle" look of the cragars
I guess you would say it is a combo of all three. I'm not doing anything too crazy with the motor just sticking with the 302 mild cam, heads, exhaust, etc. switching to the c4 trans, it's getting dropped a couple inches to improve the stance. Overall I'm building a truck that i can put in a show one weekend and load up the camping gear the next. looks and function. That is what i like about the soft 8's. the only complaints I have heard about them is that they are too heavy as they are steel, then again those are from car not truck owners. There negative is my positive the way i look at it.

Just curious. What methods are you planning to lower a couple of inches?
Personally, 17s are the biggest I would go. Tire selection and availability is decent and at a reasonable cost. Prices seem to increase exponentially for 18s, 19s, and 20s.
IMHO, a 4X2 lowered a tad.....16". If it were a 4X4 raised up.......17". Any more and it'd look like a "Hot Wheels" truck. But I'm old school. And Hio had a darn good point on the tires.
Are you building a street rod kinda truck, a daily driver, weekend cruiser or just a normal old pickup.
My daily driver/do everything truck has 15x8 wheels with 31x10.50 tires. I like the way it looks and handles with that setup.
I had 31x10.50 till last week. Tires getting bad so I switch back to my old rims with 235x75x15, notice it handled better right away. I'am think about going with something about the same height as the 235 ( about 28")but lower profile (Maybe 65's) and slightly wider. Been thinking about selling my old rims and maybe 16 or 17 inch rims.
I was looking at using either the dream beams and doing an axle flip in the rear but after all suspension parts are purchased it may actually be more cost effective to go with air bags... Haven't really got that far yet as motor and trans are in the works now. Nothing too crazy on the drop just a nice stance.
I'm not a fan of huge rims on two wheel drive trucks of that style either, have to have some tire... No rubber bands

I have 15X10 Soft 8's on my truck and I've been running them for around 5-6 years. You have to take care of them. I didn't wash and take care of mine and the powder coating is flaking off a little in the crevases where the rims are welded together. Also one of them must have had thinner powder coating on it than the rest because the surface of the rim got rough very fast, and they only have a 90 day warranty so I couldn't do anything about it. I do like them and I still get compliment on them, but they have to be taken care of to keep them looking good.
New member here, I too am looking for new shoes for my 68 f100 and want to do a slightly bigger (larger diameter + width) rim in the rear. Does anyone have any experience with that?
Personally, I wouldn't go any wider than 8". You can still get a 12" wide tire on it. And any wider than a 12" tire and you will have serious rubbing problems in the back. I have 11.5" wide back there and they will rub the bed sides once in awhile.
Once I have a rim picked out, does anyone know the best way to figure out what kind of tires to run. I can mount and balance them myself on base so I would like to stay away from a tire shop.
