Had my wheel off today doing new calipers brakes and hoses. Happen to look up and notice a busted manifold stud front passenger side.
I have no leaks, god knows when it might of fallen off. I dont see any others, so I called Ford and asked if this defect is covered even if I am out of warranty..lol...yeah right $1300.00 to do the one stud, and that's only if there are no others broken off and the manifold is good?
Have any of u guys driven around like this with no issues? or is it something i need to take care of right away. I just spent a few grand freshening everything up on my truck, wasn't looking forward to this.
I drove my truck for a year with 2 broken studs I didn't fix it till it started leaking (ticking when it was cold) and the noise still went away when it warmed up
You could get a portable (battery operated ) carbon monoxide detector (better yet a combination of smoke & CO detector) and monitor the situation by yourself without relying on anybody else.
I use a catalytic heater in my RV and monitor it with my combination detector for years .
I figure if it starts leaking I will go ahead and get a set of headers some Grade 8 bolts and still be cheaper than having the stealer fix 1 stud for me.
This way I will be done with the 2 issues these trucks are known for, I already replaced the plugs last week when I did all my fluids and filters.
Yeah, that's next on my bucket list. I have a "ticker" when it's cold and my guess is a busted stud. The best muffler shop in Boise says they will take off the manifolds, refinish, new gaskets and better bolts for $500. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Sounds like a decent shop not looking to rape u on the job
Pappy19, If you get yours done at the shop your talking about, let me know how it went. I live in Pocatello, Id. Id like to get mine done, but their is not any good shops around here I trust to do it right. I could always use a vacation to Boise.
Careful, I'm pretty sure headers were only made for 2 valve engines '99-04. If you look at the 3 valve manifold it is pretty efficient as it is any way. Plus you have 4.30's so you've got a monster as it is. As for your studs, like Pappy says, a good muffler shop will get the job done better and cheaper than the dealer. I've got a guy in Oregon that does them by pulling the whole manifold, welding nuts to the broken studs to get them out, he is fast and good at it. Dealers will try to drill and extract each nut and the techs can bugger up the job as well, mess up threads, drill into water jacket etc. If you want free power just use the tow haul function. It's like a free chip for your truck. You don't have to be towing to use it!

My truck is a beast, and I do run in tow haul mode as well. Thanks for the heads up on the Headers. This is why I love forums, there is always someone who has been there done that.
