Body Shift?

So my 2013 is making a strange noise that seems to be coming from the front end when turning and going over a bump. While riding with the Service Writer, we also felt that the noise could be coming from the rear of the truck. I think it's two seperate issues, he mentioned something about the rear end noise being "body shift". So two questions:

1. Any ideas of what a "clunking noise" would be coming from around the steering column.

2. What the heck is "body shift"?

Body shift

Is the body of the truck shifting on the frame.

I have no idea on the other noise.

That's what I took his comment to be. Not sure for certain, the truck only has 9,700 miles on it, so I don't know if the rear end noise is just something coming loose, or something damaged due to the extremely cold winter we had this year.

I had the same issue on my 2012 F350. On occasion, while turning onto uneven surfaces, I would hear a noise up front - almost a growling sound as the suspension articulates. Diesel tech noted the issue and lubricated the areas where the body attaches to the frame (body mount bushings).

From what I understand having talked to diesel techs, and please correct me guys if I am wrong, is:

1. If you're hearing a clunking noise while turning your steering wheel back forth (stationary), then you might have excessive front end play. Ask them to check your steering linkage assembly - should be covered under warranty.

2. "Body Shift" is when our truck frames articulate - apparently they are more flexible than one would think.

Hope this was helpful...

Thank you, that is helpful. My problem seems to be a bit different as the noise is more of a "clunk" and only while moving over uneven surfaces.

On the body shift, is there any way to get that tightened up?

Not sure, but I haven't noticed it since the tech lubricated the body mount bushings.

Mine had the same "clunk" when turning, usually up driveways. Felt like it was coming from under the driver's feet. They replaced a body mount on mine, but they can also shim them. I think there was a TSB in 2011.

Even though this is from 2011, they just replaced a body mount on my 2014 for the same type of noise (I also had it on my 2011).

Any news about your truck, Badger Mike? If you need help from my neck of the woods, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership; I'll bring this to the attention of your regional customer service manager so they can assist.

Angry

Well...picked up my truck after the 3rd service on the noise issue and guess what...the noise is still there It's going back for the 4th time tomorrow and I'm beginning to get really frustrated with it, I think the service tech is too.

The last time they torqued the body mounts, and it seemed to have some impact on the noise, but the last two days of driving it around town it is back. Ran the same route that I did with the service tech the last time, turning left into a driveway and the truck clanks and creaks like the left side of the truck is going to fall off!

Really frustrated at this point. Any suggestions, wer'e getting close to a place that I don't want to go, my lawyer.
