Unfortunately, I've only had enough time to read through the installation instructions at this point and need to take a few minutes to get into the maintenance part of it, but I believe it is the same interval as the factory system. You do have the advantage though of being able to see the condition of the filters somewhat without removing them. The kit comes with two spare elements and O rings though.
Although I didn't physically measure the location of the top bolts, they looked to be in a different position from the bottom bolts and it appeared that I would've had to redrill the mounting plate, rather than simply oblong the holes. Also (without measuring) I don't think there would have been sufficient clearance between the bowls and the cable to change the filters. Mounting above was a possibility, but I didn't have enough time to fully measure it out to know for sure. Perhaps on my next day off, I can measure and give you a better answer.
Could you have mounted it using the two bolts above and run the parking brake cable below the bowls?
I had a few minutes yesterday to slide under the truck and do some measuring to hopefully answer your question. In a nutshell, the answer is no, it will not fit above the brake cable. The reason is, at the rear of the mount, the body drops to within 4" of the top of the housing. The housing needs at least 7 inches of clearance from top to bottom. Sliding the assembly forward won't work because of the location of the TCM. Even then, there is only 7" clearance between the body and the brake cable, which means you would be dangerously close to the pet***** which could snap one off at some point from contact with the cable, or at the very minimum get in the way when draining or replacing the filters. I have pictures showing what I saw with the measuring tape. I'll post them if you want. Let me know. I hope this answers your question.
A shield to protect it from road debris would be a welcome option from Dieselsite, but with no clearance, you still couldn't mount it any higher up. Perhaps an E brake cable relocation bracket would help.

For the assembly price, both a shield and e-brake bracket should be included!!!
Yeah $700 is steep price but I guess cheaper then a whole new fuel system if it works as claimed.
I think a relocated e-brake cable would be the way to go. Then you can mount the filter body up higher and get the filter bottoms up above the frame rail. Add a simple stone and stick shield to complete it.
Don't know why I'm fretting a part I don't own much less about a truck I don't even own!
