[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-May-02 AT 10:06 PM (EST)]I have just put in a brand new pressure plate, clutch disk and slave cylinder. I have a hydraulic clutch system and the flywheel has been grinded twice. The pedal releases almost all the way out. There is no free travel at all. Now it is starting to slip occasionally. Is there a way to get it to release futher down?
You will need to replace the flywheel if you want the pedal to come back. The ranger flywheels are sensitive to being machined too much. Sorry to break the bad news!

At this one sight it says:
If the flywheel is “over-ground”, you would notice an extra amount of free pedal-travel on the clutch pedal
My problem is, it is not catching until the pedal is almost all the way out. It is annoying to have the gas pedal down, then keep releasing and releasing the clutch and not moving until the clutch pedal is all the way out.
I bought a new 88 Ranger 4X4 which had that "problem" as long as I had it. Clutch worked fine, but you could not rest your heel on the floor and release it.
I now have a 91 Explorer which has the opposite symptom - too close to the floor, even after changing clutch, pressure plate, pilot bushing, release bushing and slave cylinder, as well as master cylinder. Wonder if any of these components are interchangeable?
Maybe a different master or slave cylinder from another vheicle?

Also, will these shims make it grab closer to the floor now?
