"Years of experience and Ford testing has shown that these older CJ-4 formulations provide the necessary engine protection in all Ford diesel engines where CJ-4 and older C categories are recommended. Some of these CJ-4 oils could be available for up to a year after December 1, 2016."
Category - this is an excerpt from Ford's "Ford Motor Company CK-4/FA-4 Ford Position Statement" letter sent to the oil manufacturers. Unfortunately Schaeffer no longer makes a 5W40 that are the "older CJ-4 formulations" so I'm on the hunt for what to use next. As mentioned earlier in this thread, I did contact Schaeffer (where I got the letter) and they said they were going to make a 5w40 fully synthetic oil that meets Ford's specification, hopefully it's available when I need my next oil change.

Yeah, the local shops buy in bulk, an old buddy of mine is in charge of maintainence for a local school district, he buys in bulk. A lot of farmers in the Midwest do as well. As well as contractors in this area.
I use the 15-40 S-3 in the summer,and switch to 5-40 Syn in the fall.....I am thinking about putting their 20-50 racing oil in my bike next summer. The zinc levels in the racing oil start out at 2400 ppm.
A lot of local truck pullers have switched to it so they can make it a whole season without a rebuild.
Maybe do a search online for a local distributor in your area????

I haven't noticed it in pails, but see it in drums and 2 and 1 gallon jugs,along with quarts, I'm sure they have it in 5 gallon pails for guys with equipment. They carry a variety of weights....syn blend for gassers.
Cen-Pe-Co website is kinda bland....but it has tabs on how to order it, and like I said, I'm sure there is a distributor handy to you.
Now, to be honest with you, last I checked,this wasn't on the Ford approval list yet,but knowing what this oil is and seeing the UOA's....and seeing it used by guys with equipment year round for years....I personally,feel good about using it....and wont use a different brand.
A few years ago I wasn't so much of a oil brand loyal guy,now after getting this new truck and putting money into it,plus my bike...and seeing the results, this is all I will use.
I think this stuff would be great for you...like you said, can stick to one brand for everything....just grab the right weight and dump it in.

With all due respect, I tried Amsoil because of all the hoopla over it, in my bike,was not impressed. The shifting did get better,but overall noise...dirtiness...I was very disappointed. I have Mobile1 V Twin in it now...noticeable difference with everything. Amsoil is now considered a class 3 oil,which means it isn't a true Syn....only 4 and 5 are. They have cheapened their product, less zinc than others. Many folks use and love it....myself, I prefer conventional in a diesel...except for winter time.

Whats everyone's opinion on running Motorcraft 10w30 non-synthetic when towing heavy? Too light even if I change it every 5000 miles? I ask because I can get the 5qt jugs at walmart for $18/jug. And I also like the better fuel mileage I get with it. But if it's too light then I will switch to a 5w40 synthetic.

I switched to Valvoline PBE 5w-40 in an effort to keep the oil cooler. An added benefit to me is the better viscosity in cold weather than a 10w-30. I would never run a 15w-40 in my climate. The lower viscosity may also improve MPG but I haven't verified that in my own truck yet.
A non-synthetic oil _may_ break down faster if run hot.
At the temperatures my engine hits towing in the Colorado mountains I need every option for keeping things cool.

5w-40 is good in the cold and the hot. Where I live, we hit the teens at night in the winter and the 100teens in the summer (110+) 5w-40 covers it all.
If you change it twice a year as climate changes, in the long run you will pay a lot more than one synthetic change a year.
