engine lite on/off ?
hi FTE good folks 93 ran. 4.0 5 man. 170k ck engine lite comes on at random now& then at times not for a long while then goes out recon what yall ? could use help thanks treb down south yall take care now

I had the intermittent CEL prob on my 94 4.0 back when it had 10K on the clock. Long story, but the dealer could never find anything wrong. They put in the "flight recorder" and gee, for two weeks no problem. Of course, when the recorder was removed the CEL prob returned. How frustrating!!!!They suspected it was a O2 sensor that was right on the edge of it's operating tolerance, but Ford will not reimburse the dealer for the repair if the part cannot be proven bad.
What I did was starting using one bottle of STP super concentrated fuel injector cleaner at every oil change (3,000m). That took care of it for the most part; might get the CEL when climbing a mtn pass with a very heavy load, such as a trailer. You might want to also changing brands of gas too. Oh, the dealer, when questioned by me about using fuel injector cleaner, did not think it would help. Go figure................
