THX That's great news it would have been a shame to junk it. It's all in good shape and I need a new windshield bad mine is foggy. Delaminating I would guess. MONEY SAVED THX
Your biggest issue will be safely removing the salvage W/S without breaking it. Assuming at least one of the gaskets is in good enough reusable condition you'd need to cut the one not being reused.
Cracks, splits or hardening of the rubber all contribute to leaks after installation. Carefully check both and try to save the better of the two.
A replacement gasket is probably available for $70 or less which would be the best idea if this is to be a restoration project.
Hoping you're experience at W/S installation or have recruited someone who is?
Thx for the heads up on the rubber. I'm planning on buying a new rubber. The only question I have on that is. Do I buy the one for the 69 which is the finished truck or the one for the 73 which is the donor. Both have chrome trim on the outside. According to Number Dummy all of the rubbers have different Ford numbers.
As far as my experience with truck glass that would be zero. I've read and watched videos so I understand the process. BUT doing is another thing. I will try and find a glass person to install first before I try. THX Again David
Since the W/S are the same the gasket will also be the same---or similar enough to not make a big difference. Buy which ever one is available---typically I'd simply order a gasket for the DW687. The other limiting factor will be what's available for a 40 year old vehicle!
IIRC the crome trim is actually metal strips with corner pieces. Any variation in part numbers would be for the trim itself, less dressy trucks had plain black trim. (Its been a while since I've worked on that vintage a Ford F-Series so apologies if I'm wrong on this.
Can you link me to any YouTube videos you've watched about this process? I might be able to shed some light on it all for you.
