YOUR OPINION: Is Ford Falling Behind in the HD Truck Market?

I just put the truck back on because I still haven't taken a pic of the car/truck together, I still have both the car and truck. It's a badass little car for what it's supposed to do, 41mpg over 1000 miles, and so far I'm liking the quirky things like the dual-clutch trans and even having Sync. Since we're on the topic of crap vehicle interiors... it's an SE model and it makes my old Hyundai look and feel like a Dodge!

I'm a loyal Ford owner for years and have a new F350 on order. That said I think Ford has gotten a little complacent and also gone off too far in catering to people who really want a Superduty for the looks and not as a truck. In ordering my next truck there weren't any options available to beef up the rear of the F350 so it wouldn't droop with a 800 lb hitch on it. C'mon Ford why should the customer have to spend money buying aftermarket for something that should have been a non issue from the factory.
Finally its past time to change the look of the truck and offer some variation of paint colors. Once upon a time you could get the interior in grey or brown but now you better like grey with the XL.

Dodge is the only other vehicle I would consider when buying another truck. My brother and FIL both have 1500's Hemi. Both are nice smooth trucks with a lot o f power. My buddy just bought a 12 2500 w/ the hemi. 390 HP and not sure what the torque is. It is a nice powerful 3/4 ton. The biggest area I see is the intereior of Dodge. All 3 trucks have storage built into the seats, gloveboxes, under the console up front etc. they made excellent use out of space available.
All that being said, I rarely if ever look at anything but another Ford. One hard thing would be to have leave the comfort of FTE... Not sure any other truck forum comes even close...although again, I never look.

I understand Chrysler owns both names, but Dodge still has an inferior name that they didn't want associated with their truck line.

Ram, Dodge Ram or Dodge truck. There is no real distinction of any "distance" from the original company. If Ram wanted to make themselves a different sounding company, go with a name change. Call themselves Goats. Even when they are still sold by a different company, you still go to a Chrysler lot to buy one. It is not just a RAM lot or something of the sort.
Pretty much all the guys I know with Ram trucks still call them Dodges. 2 of my friends have 2013s. They still call them Dodge trucks. When there is a problem, they go to the Chrysler dealer for repair. There is no distinction is the problem even by the owners.

true separation would be a stand alone dealer/service center.
Not going to happen as a business model. Not enough volume.
I think they have come along way but I don't think the quality is there for the long term yet.
I think most will not be willing to invest that kind of money hoping it will last till you get it paid off let along 10-12 years.

I think if anything GM is behind in the HD market. They haven't made really any changes to the body style at all. They are still rocking the square wheel wells, still carrying over nearly the same grille and light configuration...the Duramax is still lacking torque that PowerStroke and Cummins still has (800+ vs 765).
Dodge offering larger rims might be do to the fact that they might have larger brakes...not 100% sure but I thought each time the rims got larger (from the factory) was the fact they needed more room for larger rotors and calipers?
