66 Custom Cab Front Window molding help

Hello All:

I'm in the final stages of my 66 custom cab restoration, and am installing the new front windshield. I have the correct weatherstripping (with slot) to accept the stainless steel molding. Unfortunately I botched the steel molding during the initial pull, so have had to search salvage yards for a another set. Fortunately, I've located a 64 which has the original windshield and associated molding. At first glance, they appear to be the same. My question to you:

Will my truck (the '66) accept the stainless window molding from the '64?

Thanks in advance and pictures will follow.

Regards, Idaho

Doug, AFAIK tis the same. You do know that you you install it in the rubber before installing it in the truck.

Yes, the trim will interchange.

I have installed trim sets made up of different pieces from different year trucks.

Good luck

Stainless steel windshield reveal mouldings same: 1961/66 F100/1100 - 1963/69 N/NT/T500/1100 - 1967/69 F800/1000.

In order to remove these mouldings, the windshield must be removed from the truck.

It will probably be necessary to cut "the hard as a rock" windshield weatherstrip with an xacto or similar knife.

I based my comment on your use of "I botched". Usually that means someone was trying to pull the metal while still installed.

Don't know your buds methods, but a good way is to use a 3/16" cord pulled into the cab slot center bottom around to center to pull the inside lip in.

The gasket is meant to install without sealant. I do believe that most here do now agree that sealing is preferred because of leaking.

Hope the install goes well.

Thanks Bill and John!

Howdy Guys:

Thanks for the schematic and advice.....really helpful. John you're correct that I botched it when I pulled the trim and didn't know the windshield needed to be pulled as well. Thankfully I found the 64 with original windshield and perfect trim at a local salvage yard. I won't make the same mistake twice.

thanks, Idaho

John, where do you put the sealant - in the "glass" groove or "metal" groove of the rubber, or both? What's the best sealant to use?

37, Someone else will have to answer, as I have a dry fit from 12 or so years back. Please take note I said NOW.

Seems that there was a discussion about 6 months back and most now say seal it. You should be able to seal it in place, I would think. Life seems to be moving me further away from my old truck.
