Backspace Question ++

Hi all.

I have a '14 SCREW 250 Diesel on the way and in making my list of mods I came across an issue I didn't anticipate.

I found a thread on another forum with 10 pages of issues re: aftermarket wheels on SD trucks - mostly cracking. The brand listing was so far reaching that I suddenly felt lost in my quest for "safe" wheels.

I am looking for a 17x9, black with minimal chrome / polish.

I have already been though the whole process of the load E tire thing and settle on the Kumho MT, 35x12.50x17

I ended up wanting to get the Mickey Thompson Classic Baja Lock (wanted the classic locks with the removable ring but they are discontinued). Problem is in the 8x170 17x9 they are 5" Backspace and 0 offset - I worry about excessive rubbing.

I chose these for looks but mostly strength and structure

Also planning on a Readylift Leveling kit with some block in the rear. Not sure how much yet (truck has camper pkg. so not sure how that affects the stance if at all)

Other things on the list are flares and maybe the smitty bilt grille mesh

I appreciate your insight on the wheels (and anything thing else :-) ). I just don't want to make a stupid and expensive mistake.

Thanks!

I cant help with the backspacing numbers.

There isn't a ton of unsatisfied customers on this forum that I have seen. I have seen a few cracked factory wheels though.

The forged wheels are the strongest from what I've heard. So to find a forged hub centric wheel is a challenge.

Do you tow heavy often or load heavy in the bed? If not personally I wouldn't worry about it. But that is coming from a guy who likely wont be a passenger in your vehicle.

Every day I see more and more aftermarket wheels on heavy duty trucks so its likely to have more failures. Make sure to use the correct lugs with the wheel you choose.

Ive had my wheels and tires setup for quite a while with zero issues. Having said that I don't deal with heavy use often.

Thanks Jason.

This is funny, but mine is white, added cab lights, wanting black wheels and black flares.

My bad LOL

I won't regularly haul a lot but this thread (not sure I am allowed to link off site) was scary.

Just don't wanna order stuff and it rub so that is the biggest concern.

Bad *** truck BTW

I have XD series Crank Wheels on my truck, i looked before i bought them at the weight rating but have slept since then so i looked again and it says that my wheel will hold 3600 pounds on each wheel so 14,400 pounds for the WHOLE vehicle max weight. I know that my tires exceed that number so my limiting factor is the wheels and suspension. I have never gotten up to that much weight on my truck and i have put some heavy trailers on and also 2500 pounds in the bed. Just verify that the wheel meets or exceeds your factory wheel ratings and you should be in good shape!

I think there was only one style of XDs cracking and it was the one with the skulls

Any thoughts on the backspace / fitment?

Thanks
