have an 88 f250...since ive owned it ive never been able to put gas in the front tank....it is empty and it will accept gas at a rate of around 4 gal. an hour...no kidding.

ive ran a wire down the tube and it seems clear...any help?

help with dual tank problem

Gauge problems could be sending units, tank selector switch, bad gauge, or a wiring problem to any of the above.
I'm not sure if the '88's are the same, but at least some of the truck had a vent tube as part of the filler neck. If that is blocked or mis-aligned somehow, that could cause your fill problem.

help with dual tank problem

i agree with mrwizard. i had the same problem with a 75 chevy truck. the vent tube, right next to the filler, got kicked at an angle and it would take me forever to put $10.00 in it. finally droped the tank and straightened the tube out and had to have the section where it attached to the tank soldered. now i can fill the whole tank in a few minutes.

help with dual tank problem

i will look really close at this..i appreciate the input,
i dont seem to have a vent tube though.
is it inside the filler somehow? the rear doesn't seem to have one either but i'll really dig into this to see....is there a cheap/safe way to install one?( if i dont have one already and thats the problem)

thanks

As I remember the vent was part of the filler neck, there wasn't a seperate tube.

the vent tube is part of the filler neck assembly. There is a inner tube that gas flows to the tank in and an outer(one you can see) tube that is the vent. the inner tube is much smaller than the outer. If the inner tube became seperated or expanded, it may cause the gas to fill the outer tube and therfore no vent . to remove the filler neck you must lower the tank a few inches to get to the hose clamp at the tank. then remove the three screws from the filler neck to the quarter panel. check to make sure the both hoses are intact and no holes exist. The inner hose should be firmly attached to the fillerneck under the outer hose.
