Need help! Transmission Problems

Recently I purchased a 1990 F250 with 199,000 miles. It's a single cab long bed 2wd with the naturally aspirated 7.3 and an automatic tranny. The truck is in great shape. Everything is original other than the paint being faded. But anyways, the guy that was selling the truck told me it slips around 45mph. However, I went for a ride along for the first time to test drive it, and it just seemed to fall out of gear into neutral, and then slam back into gear if you kept on the gas. Now the weird thing, if you start off in drive, you have to give it alot of gas to make it move, (almost like it's in second or third gear) but if you put it in 1st manually, it crawls, without touching the gas. But if you keep driving it in drive it doesn't seem to shift and the rpms don't change, then at 55 it goes into overdrive. But it gets up to speed decently. But if manually shifted from first, then second, then drive, it hits 3 gear, and then "falls" out of it, then slams back in, and it goes on it's way etc.. I was thinking sylanoid pack, MLPS sensor? Any more ideas or advice would be great. Has tranny fluid.

failing MLPS.

when you buy your replacement, and it doesn't plug in.post back, and we'll help ya re-pin the new style.if the replacement simply plugs in,then a previous owner has already updated it,so in that case, you could discard the extra clip in the package.

to replace, set the e-brake and chock a wheel.loosen the nut slightly, then shift into N position with the nut still snug.remove the nut and the bolts holding the sensor.line up the two lines on the new sensor.set the sensor on with two bolts and then the nut.shift into park and make sure the engine starts without the need to hold up on the shift lever while in P.test that the engine starts in N position, and you should be good as long as you can shift easily without force all the way down in manual 1 position.she should take right off now with ease,in D position the same as it does in manual 1 now,and you'll have no slip into N while going down the road without anymore of that horrible slam, grind, bang back into gear again.
strongly recommend you replace the sensor before driving the truck anymore.

good luck and welcome to FTE bigz.
