There's lots I want to do to it cosmetically but first I want to get the suspension beefed up a bit. The important thing is, she runs as good as she looks!!
Hey Retired Guy......I need a front bumper. I wonder if since the grills are the same, if any bumper from 73-79 would fit my truck?
I also wonder why most of the 78's that I see have rectangular headlights, and mine has the round? My truck was assembled in Ontario. I wonder if that makes a difference.....
RangerWoman, I would bet that the bumpers from any of those years would fit. It may be a "Canadian" thing with the round headlights. I know that the "Mercury" pickups I see are from Canada ( mid-1950s). My son had a '78 Black step side when he was in school. Sharp truck.
I bet you're right. The outside mirrors all seem to be the same too, from what I see.
I would have got a bumper by now but I just can't decide between a real bumper or the double 1 x 10's that I have had appropriated for awhile for just such the occasion <BEG> ( It is legal to do so in the state which my vehicle is registered. )
Dennis, my truck has Ranger/Explorer trim levels. At least that's what the emblem badges say. And judging by the headliner trim and other things I think that's accurate. It doesn't say Custom on it anywhere, but the headlights are round.
Hmmmm, I may be forced to send for my trucks build sheet!!!
How can that be? I will re-check the VIN as soon as I get out of work, but that's not something I'd normally misread, lol!
I wonder if I have the wrong VIN plate? But the door info correspons to it The title states '78...... it was assembled in Ontario, I wonder if it's possible to be "between years" ??
If the last part of the vin# starts with AE-0000 to CJ-4999 it is a 78.
If it has only one letter after the C (for ontario truck) like Y45730.
Then it's a 77.
According to the plate on the door (which appears to be intact and not messed with) , the 5th and 6th digits from the right are BA. So I reckon it's a 78 alright...... The plate itself says "Made in Canada" in the upper right corner.
I have an axle code of 14. Are those Danas? I suppose I could look, but any names are probably long gone by now.....<sigh>

not to be rude but.... NOT!!!! 77 production ceased in 1977. 1978 production started in late summer of 77. the production year is july to july although some years it is continued when the new model is not ready (always a changeover model where the new model is not ready yet like 1970 falcon vs 1970 1/2 falcon, the 70 is based on the 66-69 body while the 70 1/2 is a stripped down torino). there have only been a few extended production cars in the ford line but GM is famous for it (1955 1st and 2nd series pickups, 1970 and 1970 1/2 camaros/firebirds etc...). hawkrod

Hawk! I was wondering where you were, -you were missed!
This truck may have suffered an ooops somewhere along the line and a broken grill assy was replaced by another year. Our trucks are OLD and mix-n-match is happening every day to keep them running.
