What tire pressures are people running? (I tow a 5500 lb boat a fair amount)? I went to check pressures on my new to me 2000 V10 and they were at 35, I bumped them up to 77 or so (80 PSI max on sidewall).
I don't have a leak, all four were at 35 and the tires are brand new.
Probably noticed a different ride...didn't ya? No need to run these tires at 35 or 77-80, even with the boat. Look for a balance, suggest trying 45-65 range, watch your contact patch and wear. Wont hurt to run them close to the max, but sure rides like crap...some say you get better fuel mileage? Don't know how much I put in that.
According to the book, the rear tires get 55 Lbs, the front 50 Lbs. I would not run the tire that high, increases chance of blow-out and I thought 55 was alot.
stecz, I hope you or someone previous has replaced the original 'D' rated LT's with 'E's. If not, you're extremely overpressure!
The 'D's are rated 65 lbs max and the 'E's are rated 80. I run 60 lbs front and rear in my 'E's and it rides a little more harsh, but the mileage has improved a bit. I'm not really sure but I think this pressure should allow you to tow 5500 lbs with a problem.
The sidewalls of the tires say 80 PSI, so I'm not worried about a blowout from the pressure. It just rides harsh. I've backed the tire pressures off to what the placard on the door says (50 front 55 rear or something). It rides better, but not as good as when they were at 32 psi all around (what the pressures were when I bought the truck....

Actually, it's not true that higher pressures increase the risk of blow-out. Rather, tires run at pressures below their recommended pressures are more likely to blow-out due to heat build-up in the side walls. This is precisely what happened to the Firestones on many SUVs in the 90's, leading to over 100 traffic fatalities. Ford recommended pressures in the 30-35 psi range, while Firestone designed them to run higher. Ford's decision was based purely on concerns about ride comfort (a softer tire has a more comfortable ride.) I strongly recommend that one not tow at tire pressures below the 50/55 psi posted by Ford. And your tires will last longer and give you another mile or so better fuel mileage if you run them at their max pressure.
