I haven't posted in quite a while, but, I am on here at least twice a day reading, learning, and dreaming .
I find myself driving this truck as much as I can and enjoying every minute of it.
Last weekend I was able to shift from 3rd to 4th without using the clutch, and,,, very smoothly I must add. I thoroughly enjoy the learning curve of this truck. Using the choke when it's cold brings back memories of my youth.
I wanted tunes for the old girl but absolutely will not cut the dash to put one in and don't really want to put one in the glove box that took so long to install.
My wife purchased a Bose SoundLink Mini for me for Christmas and man can they get GREAT sound outa that little thing. It's absolutely amazing, and perfect as it is portable and can operate via blutooth NO wires needed
For those wanting an easy way to get quality tunes into the old trucks check em out.
.Once again thanks to all here @ FTE, and keepem on the big road!!!

Hey Roger,
So.... when you drove it to the football game did you tail gate?
Here in Texas tailgating is a serious business - huge BBQ set up's,
people watching, etc. Congratulations on the Ohio State win! They played a great game.

Thanks for the comments.
Ben,,, lotsa tailgating goin on, I, however, have "jobs" to do before the games so I don't get to tailgate too much.
Neighboring property has about a dozen trucks back up to the fence and watch the games from the beds of their trucks. I will be able to do that too in a few years
As for Ohio State,,,,
Best weapon for Duck huntin is a "12 Gauge"
Cardale Jones, no. 12,,, is called the "12 Gauge"

Jim, I read your build a while back and am very sorry for your woes and misfortune with the body man. You are doing a great job though, and will have a new skill when finished.
I had no intentions of my truck being painted let alone by someone else.
I wanted to get her running well, and just drive it the way she was.
However,,, fate had different plans,, kinda just the opposite of your original plans. Long story short, my daughter was a freshman @ Ohio University and drove to school every day. Last winter we had a heck of a snow on and she was hit by a private snow plow driver that backed outa the lot into the roadway and totaled our best vehicle. I drove it to a friend that owns a body shop. He stated that if the insurance co. totaled it that he wanted to buy it from us and would give us more than what the ins. co. wanted for it.
I asked about him painting the old truck instead of giving us more than what they wanted and he said yes. So I got $1000 from him and he painted the truck..... However I had no idea how great of a deal I got until now.
I had no idea that a quality paint job costs what it does now.

Keep it on the big road...
.....Roger

Hey Roger,
I detect a slight wobbly nature in your writing this morning.....
Did you watch a ball game last night?

I hope your daughter was ok. My youngest daughter is preparing to go off to college this year - makes you a little nervous.

Ben, lack of sleep and high level of excitement may have been the reasons for my "wobbly writing" and it was created from watching THE game last night. Congrats to the Buckeyes!!.
It is very hard to let go of the young'uns but,, also very necessary. I wish you and your daughter the best as she journeys into adulthood.
.
Jim, I am very fortunate to have such a great family. By the looks of yours, on that ole firetruck, you are also very fortunate.
Keep up the great work,,,and,,,keep em on the BIG road!!!.

I got problems.
#1 a brake lining became unattached from it's shoe.
It has more than ample wear left it just came unglued.
Thought this would be a good time to just get em all relined.
Called the local NAPA and they said that they couldn't do them for on-road
vehicles. They gave me a place in Indiana that could do them. I called and they said $300.00 to reline my shoes. EEEEEGADS that's a lot
of $$$ to me. Is this a reasonable and current price???

#2 I have 6 brand new 7.50x20 tires and liners that came with the truck.
I would like to use them but am more than concerned about the WM
rims. I can't seem to locate any 5 lug 20" rims at a reasonable price.

Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

[B]EDIT:[B] Ray paid $55 to have the front shoes relined 2 years ago, here is the thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...f6-brakes.html

Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Roger
The brake shoe linings should NOT be glued on, they must be riveted or bolted on. If the linings are in fact still in very good shape, you should either find somebody to reattach them. Most brake and clutch shops do this with no problem and for minimal cost. Or you could buy the rivets ( or bolts, it's the newer way) and do them yourself. When I did Edith's brakes a few years ago I bought the linings and rivets from Joblots. Not having the right press and being cautious I took them to a clutch shop in Chattanooga who charged me $40 to install them.
When Ray needed his front shoes relined he sent them to the same shop and had them relined for a lot less than $100. (I'll try to find the post)

Regarding the wheels, keep in touch with Stu (truckdog) and Josh (Jmadsen) on finding them.

EDIT: Ray paid $55 to have the front shoes relined about 2 years ago https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...f6-brakes.html
