I've noticed a big change in the engine noise with miles after an oil change. This is not the exhaust sound but general noise from the engine compartment (valves...?) Got a 1997 F250 CC and run Rotella 15-40 /Motorcraft filter/change 3-5kmi now at 120kmi. The loudness increases after 3k and is most noticable of course when its gone. Is the noise an issue? - is the lubrication less after 3k and the oil be changed sooner? I am considering going to a by-pass filtration / synthetic system where oil changes will be less frequent can I expect more engine noise with such a setup?
It seems to use little to no oil between changes and I rarely add oil. It sounds though that you don't notice a similar increase in engine noise with your oil/change frquency combination? I am more concerned if it is not 'normal'.
I use Rotella and haven't noticed any increase in engine noise between services. I don't have a whole lot of miles on mine though, so I'm not sure if this really helps you any.
I do notice the annoying injector "cackle" pretty regularly, but it sounds like there's not a good cure available for this as yet.
This is not really on the subject, but when I change my oil and filter and add 15 quarts, the dipstick still shows I'm a quart or so low. Anyone else notice this? Should I be adding more oil?
