Looks like I need to replace my battery in the '49 F 3. It has the flat 8 in it.
Any one know of some good options. Is there a battery out there that has the same measurements as stock without being outrageous in price?
Thanks, Brian
Do you have a Tractor Supply store nearby? This is the one I've used in my truck since 2010, with a LOT of down-time between drives. It's a LITTLE cheaper than the Optima's, etc. at $90. It's apparently a little smaller than the original stock sized batteries. My battery holder bracket is a little big for it, but it will work fine.
BTW, you'll probably have to find it yourself on their shelf. The kid working there kept telling me they didn't have any 6-volt batteries right up until the point that I put it in my shopping cart.
I've used and seen used that or similar Exide 6 V in N, NAA and hundred series Ford tractors with good luck. If they'll survive the rough treatment that they get in a tractor, they should stand up in a truck.
Doc, no Tractor Supply here in the northwest but I do remember them when I lived in Iowa. Does look like a good battery for the price.
Joe, yea that is the battery that I probably will get though measurements are off somewhat.
Thanks, brian

If you have a Bi-Mart nearby try them. Best place I have found for batteries.
I use a 6v Optima with an OE style box to hide it in. I have Optimas in all three cars and haven't had any issues. Box is about $60 and came from the guy that makes them in Bothell, WA. It's the correct dimensions for the battery tray and hold down.
