axle splines
My 68 f100 is a bottom of the line truck with a 6 cylinder and painted grill,no frills here. I want convert my 9" rear to posi and have seen numerous units on ebay. They all want to know how many splines the axles have.Is there a standard for my year and model? will and ford 9" posi unit work as long as the spline nuimber is right? thanks

Ther are 28 & 31 spline axles from the older vehicles for sure.
The best way to verify stuff is with buck tag numbers.
This is the tag that says what the rear is made up with.
28 spline axles taper down to the splines from the smooth machine area.
31 splines axles go right from smooth to splines with NO Taper to them.
