Dual Wheels?
We have two Ford plants here in Louisville, so we have quite a few equipment installers in the area too. I am talking about the guys who install the hoists, dump beds, package boxes, utility beds, ladder racks, and whatever.
The local paper ran a feature article in the business section explaining what these people do an showing how the truck business creates jobs outside of the plant itself.
The manager of one of the companies (don't remember for sure. but think it was Manning Equipment) expressed a desire for Ford to build a Ranger with dual wheels. He said they had an application tht could use it.
I have wondered what the application was, but never pursued it.
ANY IDEAS????
Two things came to mind:
The airport has some trucks with steps bolted on them that they use to unload passengers when the plane isn't parked at a jetway. The stairway isn't very heavy but it can be pretty tall when in use. A Ranger could haul it OK, but the dual wheels might be required by some regulation. The ones in use are on F-350s with dual wheels.
The local cable company has some vans equipped with cherry pickers. Apparently they have no stabilizer jacks, because they really lean when the service person is up in the air. A Ranger with duals would be far better.
If Ford ever gives in to this guy's wishes (which I doubt will happen) I can just see someone buying a used one and fitting it with a 5th wheel so they can haul their D4 Cat out to the jobsite.

Thanks for your thoughts.
