Went with the Street Demon 750 due to the solid bowl, new design and good reviews. I'll post a review if you guys want when it gets in.

One thing though, how well can our stock mechanical fuel pumps feed a carb that size?

Woulda thought that 670 Street Avenger would be plenty for 400 ci - did you plug it into Holleys carb calculator?

Quick fuel vacume secondary NICE!

For your application a vacume secondary would be nice. quick fuel has a very simple adjustment screw that no other company has. I have ran several of these vacume secondary quick fuel and love them. Not a fan of the edelbrocks from several past experiences. eddys do work but seem like i never get them to work in hi elevation application. quick fuel has a excellent tech page on their carbs. 400 inch engine and performance 4wd would be looking at atleast 700cfm. Big vacume secondary in the 780cfm would be nice! Actually a 750 vacume secondary would work great and get some decent fuel mileage at same time. Good luck and call quickfuel or send them a message and they will respond quickly to your needs.

Wait, so after all this stuff about how you don't like edelbrocks you end up with what's basically a polished up edelbrock?

Except it's not an Edelbrock. Did you read why I didn't like the Eddy?

I never owned one of the DeMon carbs... they kinda do look like a Carter/Eddy - but I am sure there has to be some diff engineering going on.

The Street Demon 750 sure says Thermoquad to me except it is much cleaner.

They call them Triple-Stack™ boosters. I can't seem to get a link to the pic to work.

Yeah but it didn't make any since.

Interesting carb though, the blown idle circuit is interesting I'd likely prefer one over an "Eddy" That said my experience with Demon carbs isn't favorable. There Holley based carbs look good but the ones I've worked with haven't worked for ****e. Edelbrocks though have been very predictably good. Limited by there design but always good "out of the box".

I hadn't seen the Street Demon but what I've read of "reviews" have been very positive. Amazon sells them and out of 6 reviews they've gotten five 5's and one four. So I'm interested.

* 750 CFM airflow - ideal for use on most modified small blocks and most stock or mildly modified big blocks
* Dual mounting bolt pattern - fits most aftermarket spread/square bore intake manifolds without adapter
* Electric Choke Management means easy cold starts
Single fuel inlet for simple installation
* Integrated fuel bowl/main body design with gasket above fuel level and no plugged passages to eliminate all potential leak paths
* Small 1-11/16” primary throttle bores combined with proven Triple-Stack™ boosters deliver amazingly crisp throttle response and drivability, superior fuel atomization and improved fuel economy
* Goggle Valve Secondary (GVS™) throttle plate delivers over twice the air flow of the primary bores for power you can hear and feel (A.K.A. The Go Valve, according to Krass & Bernie)
* GVS™ makes total air flow 750 CFM while maintaining the crisp throttle response delivered by small primary bores
* Secondary air valve control - torsion spring valve control/adjustment permits seamless primary to secondary throttle response regardless of the throttle opening rate (unique contoured profile developed for better cylinder to cylinder fuel distribution)
* 750 CFM specific calibration kit (PN 1931) available for altitude and tuning adjustments
* Smooth styling - patented timeless design fits modern as well as traditional themed vehicles (Patent No.: US D648,746 S)
* Developed from the ground up with great looks and ease of use in mind
* Blown idle circuit that diverts air directly under mixture screws for a more stable idle and easy startup
* One-piece air horn assembly
* 2 Stage metering rod control easily accessible without carburetor disassembly or removal
* 4 optional vacuum step-up springs available to dial in high end performance
* Optional sets of metering rods available to refine calibration
* Multiple primary and secondary main jet orifice sizes available
* Patent pending mechanical design
* Integrated 700R4/200R4 transmission kickdown cable mounting location for proper shifts
* Ford A/T kickdown (does not work with AOD transmissions)
* Available TPS kit allows use with 4L60 and 4L80 transmissions
* Optional Aerospace Composite fuel bowl offers significant heat insulating benefits over aluminum fuel bowl - keeps fuel up to 20o cooler for optimum performance with modern fuels

Sounds like a cool little carb. Gonna check it out for my Clevor build running straight E85. The composite bowl sounds like something to look at!

The Eddy 1405 I have on it now worked fine when the motor was stock, except a 256 cam, aluminum intake and headers; although the motor wasn't rebuilt so my expectations on performance weren't high at all. Once I got the rebuild done a year later with the 270 cam, the Eddy has been a constant problem. BTW I refreshed it after the rebuild and NONE of the settings were good from the factory, including the floats. Add to that the issues with fuel pressure that I mentioned earlier.

I'd be totally cool if they gave the literature to double check the settings and listed 4.5psi of fuel pressure as a requirement.

I'd lean more towards operator error then the carb. I've never had or seen an edelbrock be untunable or be that sensitive to fuel pressure.

Google it. I'm far from the only one that's had this issue.
