4x4 Question
Ive got a 1984 F-250 6.9 IDI 4x4 4 speed and i read the other day in the owners manual that with the front hubs unlocked, if you try to shift the t-case into 4 High range, it should grind the gears. Well the lever got kicked by accident the other day going down the road at about 55 mph and it went right into 4 High without any grinding. Could the hubs not be unlocking all the way? It feels like everything is fine, but shouldn't it grind when im moving down the road due to the front drive shaft being stationary?

I've shifted my 1981 f 250 many times with hubs unlocked. Never heard it grind, and my manual says the same as yours. When I realize I'm not in 4 wheel drive I just stop the truck, get out and engage hubs.
