intermittent starting Fuel Pump????
I searched and could not quite find symptoms like mine.
I have an '01 Ex 5.4 liter, 123,000 on the odo.
Weather has been cold to very effin cold [subzero]. I have the fuel line antifreeze [Heet] in the tank, and the truck does sit outside/not garaged.
Normally a very reliable vehicle. Recently I have had intermittent starts. Sometimes it will start, sometimes it wont. Its like it has a mind of its own.
I have tried starting, and starting, and starting, almost to the point of the battery dying and it will start. Other times it will start right up first try.
Plenty of fuel, battery has good charge, acts as if the fuel pump works and sometimes it doesnt. If the pump was going out would it go all at once or would it act up this way? I cant trust to drive it anywhere now.
I changed the fuse/breaker in the power distribution box under the hood, I will be changing the fuel filter in the next week.
What say you? Anything else I can test or change cheaper than the pump? does this sound like a pump goin bad or perhaps something else?
Also If it is a pump, is the pump in the tank on the 5.4? I would assume so with my luck.....
If it is in the tank, has anyone gone through the floor instead of dropping the tank? Again, if so do you have measurements for the access hole you made in the floor?
Thanks for any help guys,,
Robb
