I just finished installing a different tranny in my truck and am fitting up a new mister gasket boot, the large truck rubber boot with the rectangular opening. The problem is that even when I am careful to center it in it's best position it has some tension on the shifter. It's not enough to actually pull it out of gear, but I was wondering if the tension would wear on the syncros or forks. I tried moving the boot up and down on the stick so that the fore and aft motion is equal but there is still some tension on the stick.
The tranny is the 3.03 3speed with the Indy truck shifter.

I have a 63 F100 three speed with the Hurst Indy shifter, and the Mr. Gasket boot you have. The boot went on fine, but did not seem "in place" untill I screwed it down. I just went for the best fit in neutral, and went from there. It works fine. (mine comes over the side of the hump to the flat floor).

My truck has a trans tunnel cover which I had to cut a piece out of the left side of to make room for the shifter. I think I'll ditch the rubber boot and make one out of soft leather. I centered it in neutral but it still bunches up when in first [ to the left and back] and will sometimes push it into neutral when decelerating in first.
