Could It Be A New F150 Diesel Is Coming

I hope the link works. Doesn't sound like it will be this year but it could happen.

They have no other choice but to offer a diesel. Their 3.0L Lion has been used in Europe for a while. Just hope they can get through all the EPA red tape and I hope this will not be a failure diesel in the US with all the Emissions that have to be on it to be compliant with State and Federal regulations. Yes the link does work.

This is a HUGE game changer. GM now needs to follow suit in this and then we'll see whose got the better 1/2 ton truck...Ford, Dodge or GM. My money will always be biased on Blue Oval. You cut me open and all you see is BLUE!

Their Lion diesel has been a popular choice for Land and Range Rover as well as a few Jaguars. Highest output rating I've found is this in a few vehicles: 202 kW (271 hp), 600 N·m (440 lbf·ft) – Jaguar XF, Jaguar XJ, Range Rover

Seems to have decent power for a V6. Seems similar to what the PowerStroke was making in the late 90s early 2000s. Not bad considering what the competition is bringing to the table within the next year. But is the 1/2 ton diesel market...is it too little too late by 10 years or will this be excepted and go one for a long time to come? Like I said in the previous thread, I do think there will be some guys who will drop down from a diesel super duty to a diesel F150 if offered. But you offer it and people will come to it long as the price is right...but with an Aluminum truck pricing plus close to an extra $4000+ premium price tag on the diesel...will enough people buy it to make the diesel market explode in America even more so?

The 3.2L going into the T-series vans will have plenty of power, why does Ford think they have to reinvent this and make a Euro version US EPA compliant when they've already done that?

If I were to place a bet, I'd say that we'll see the new transmissions and the diesel at the same time.

Imagine a truck with a 36 gallon fuel tank and achieving nearly 30 mpg's.

My advice to Ford is to not put a diesel in there F150. Why not just put the money into improving the long term reliability of the current EB models. It is a diesel like performance. Find a better way to squeeze another 2-3 mpg's and your right there in a gas engine, lower cost, lower owner costs and better performance. There will be some novelty buyers in the Nissan/Ram but I bet the majority will still buy a gas engine. I wouldn't buy a 1/2 diesel, I would get a 3/4 diesel, but I would buy a 3.5TT EB if they continued to improve, like building it with a CGI block, improved turbo cooling, keep the 6 spd tranny, and greatly improve the IC/CAC performance
w/o failures,condensation and a way to jestison or collect the junk/snot buildup..JMHO!!

Ford says we wont see a diesel F150, but the way the market is going they'll pretty much have to offer one. Ram, GM, Nissan, Toyota... all of them will offer light duty diesels. I can't see Ford being the only one that doesn't.

Personally I'd be perfectly fine with the 3.2L powerstroke. I'm planning on buying T350's with that engine anyway, so it would be nice if my personal vehicle and my work fleet shared the same engine.

Not in America. Though it would be a good idea.

If the 3.2L is going in full size Transit vans here with the capacity they are advertised as, then yeah it should be plenty of power. But the Lion diesels are a twin tubocharger setup in some cases...so I can guess a diesel version of the gas EcoBoost.

I'm waiting on a reply from someone...from what they are saying though is that the Lion diesels in the UK are a bit under powered...more or less a modern version of the 80s Isuzu Pup and Mitsubishi diesels that were under powered and only there for economy. Who knows.

900+ miles on a tank of fuel with high prices would be a nice sight.
