Hey all, I just turned 70,000 trouble free miles on my baby. I am going to my buddies shop when I go to NY next month so I have access to my own lift.
I have to make the trip anyway for a family event, so I fiqured this would be a great time to get'er done. I plan on doing the Plugs, both differentials, Tranny, Transfer case, Antifreeze.
I was wondering if I should just go to Ford and get all the fluids before I go up, or is there any difference in aftermarket products. I figure they got me this far with No Issues maybe I should stick with what works.
I am open to suggestions on plugs, I definitely don't want to go back to a 2 piece plug if I don't have to. What say u?
Try an order it all through fordparts.com and select tousley or white bear lake autonation. They have a deal on overnight shipping. As far as fluids though I would check the local autoparts store for everything.
Rockauto is another place to get the plugs from, they were the cheapest I could find. I think there is an updated plug for the early 08's. When I changed my fluids, I just bought all of the stuff from local auto parts stores, much cheaper.
If I were you I'd call a Ford dealer and give them your VIN number so they can determine which plugs you have. As I understand it, they changed plugs at Job 2 in 2007 for the 2008 models. Once you get the right part number, then you can cross reference. I just went with the Ford parts.

Went to fordparts.com and put my vin# in and it's telling me I have the brown coil boots. I in fact have the Black. Does anyone know of the part number for the replacement 1 piece plugs I am looking for. And are there better plugs I should be looking at.
Don't forget your power steering. Some royal purple cured the resistance I was getting through my steering wheel after adding big tires and dual steering stabilizers.

Yes, I use a spray nozzle, like the one out of a kn cleaner solution bottle [or a suction gun] and remove as much oil as I can. Refill and then start truck and turn full lock to full lock to move the oil around and then drain and repeat....twice more. This gives you a decent oil change and don't take too long to do.

Thanks for the heads up, I will put it on the list.
So I went to my Ford Dealer today. I picked up all my fluids and filters:
Tranny Fluid & Filter
Transfer Case Fluid
Front & Rear Diff Fluid & Friction Modifier
Silicone Sealer
Antifreeze
In Line Fuel Filter
Spark Plugs
$700.00 I was a little shocked but I wont be doing this for another 70,000 miles.
I'm sure I could have done better at a discount auto parts, but I fiqured I would go with OEM parts.

Most of the parts are motorcraft which several shops and online places sell for cheaper. This is the reason people mentioned oreilly's, rock auto and fordparts.com May even be cheaper to select your local dealer and pickup rather than paying at the counter.
Well I got it all done at my buddies shop. I actually did have the 1 piece plugs, and they came out with no issues. Drove home from NY to FL in that freaking blizzard that came thru NC.
I wound up in 4 wheel drive thru all of NC and into SC before the snow stopped. Gave the new transfer case fluid a work out. Plugs look like new, fluids looked pretty good as well. Well I wont be messing with this again for a long while.
Gives you a good feeling to have all that maintenance done. You should also do a power steering flush and brake fluid flush. I highly recommend Blue Racing Brake fluid, it's the best, plus you can get it with a blue color so you will know when the old fluid is out and the new blue is in.
