loosing oil
Have a 99 150, have had since day one, has always used oil betweenchanges every 3000 was never sure were it went. But found out today, there was a puddle of oil on top of the intake. do you have any idea were it may be coming from.(HELP)

My first head gasket went out within warranty. The second one went at 130,000 miles. I was told by a Ford mechanic that Ford realizes they have problems with the seal in the head. If this is your problem mine has been replaced by a new triple seal, however, I still don't trust it. The Ford mechanic says the head needed to be redesigned so it wouldn't leak.Maybe this isn't your problem, but if on the left side looking at the motor from the front, that was my problem.
Anyone hear from Ford about this problem. Cost me $1200 from the dealer last time.
Only problem so far with 155,000 miles on the truck.

Ok, I have good oil pressure according to the ford factory gauge (I know I've heard that the gauges arn't that good. I'm I gonna have to take the throttle body off (please say no) to se where it is coming from, or is there some kind of test that I can do to find out.

The factory gauge is only telling you that you have more than about 6 lbs. They use an oil light sender with a resistor in line to make the gauge go around 1/2 way up to keep people from coming back to the dealer for normal pressure fluctuations. You may want to have it checked with a mechanical gauge.

Thanks for filling me in on the gauge issue. I'm gonna put a mechanical on it and find out what it really reads.
I have the 5.4 LT. it has 52,000 on it. Has always had a knock (mostley in cold weather) when I first start it up. again been told buy more then a few people that this is normal for the 5.4. Also heard that in 99 the 5.4 had bad rings (undersize buy a couple of thou. is this true?)

5.4's do sometimes have piston slap when cold. Ford says that it doesnt hurt anything, just sounds bad.
I've never heard of bad rings in a 5.4. Maybe someone else will have so details on that.

finally got my oil pressure gauge and hard-ware to hook it up, talked to a couple of (you know the kind) master shade-tree mechanic's said they could find out where I could find the stock oil sending unit on the block an put a T-fitting in and hook up my new one. Surprise they have not gotten back to tell me were this sending unit is. Would you be able to help me locate were the best place to install the new gauge in the block?
