lift gate struts
anyone have any tips aon trying to remove the rear lift gate struts. I know how to pull them off but I want to keep the compressed so I can move it to my bronco 2 liftgate. If they aerostar lift gates are fully extended they won't fit on my bronco 2 so I have to rmeove them already compressed. Any advice?

These things have some SERIOUS compression to them....
I tried taking one off compressed once.. No Go.
Only thing I could suggest is using a good belt clamp (a large one) to re-compress it after you get it off... Use the Jacki-Chan move from Shanhai Noon... Use a wet towel and a pry-bar or something to twist the tower around teh strut.. as you twist the towel, the strut should compress...then once you get it compressed you can fit it in teh Bronco...you might want to consider maybe a small piece of wood at each end with a "Divot" drilled into it (to prevent sliding) to keep the towel from covering the holes. I can't guarantee that this works, cause I have never done it - but I know twisting the towel does give you some serious pressure, and will be enough to compress the strut...
