My son recently had an incident with my old Ranger, and it is now gone.
He has found (what we think!) is a good bargain on a 2004 F-250.
It has:
• Less than 60,000 miles on the odometer.
• 5.4L V8
• Auto
• 4x4
• 4.10:1 gears (limited slip)
• SuperCab
• Short wheelbase
• FX4 package
• Towing package
• Bedliner
• From what I can see/tell, the body and paint are in very good conditon, and the interior is very good, with a 'little wear' on the left-hand side of the seat back, on the driver's side. (No doubt from getting in/out. The wear is where your kidney would be, while sitting in the seat.)
Here's my situation.
I know NOTHING about the F-250.
This is a private sale, and the truck is less than $15,000, and has been inspected. No Warranty.
What should I/we look out for????
I've heard of issues with changing the sparkplugs on the 5.4L, but, I'm not sure of what years are affected, if any.
What kind of reputation does the '04 F-250 w/ 5.4L have? Any problems? (I can't find any, doing a search on the 'net.)
The spark plugs breaking wasn't an issue until 05-06. IIRC they changed to a two piece design for the later 07+. Your truck would be a 2V 5.4, they added extra threads in the heads after 02. The 5.4 is arguably one of the most reliable motors. Just keep up with the oil changes And the usual stuff. It will last a long time. The only other issue is the exhaust manifold studs. They can break causing an exhaust leaks. If it's an issue most shops can handle it.
