Replacing cat....

I want to get a new cat for my '91 5.0, but what diameter in/out do I need. The system I have on uses a reducer to go to the stock cat, but the stock inlet to the cat looks more like 3". beings as cats only come with the same in/out diameter, which should I get? Oh yeah, the reducer goes from stock to 3" diameter.

It is completely legal to replace the cat as soon as your vehicle hits 5 years or 50,000 miles. If your main pipe is truly 3", then I'd order a Walker 3" cat to match the pipe. These are true 3" in/out, very low resistance cats that'll keep you EPA legal yet are reasonably cheap (~$125) and cost virtually no hp.

I know the pipe from the muffler is 3", but I'm not sure what the size of the pipe going into the cat is, this being my problem. It looks like 3" but I want to be sure before I do anything. If it is I'll probally just get a 3" cat and a new pipe to come from the muffler up to it. Has anyone ever done this? Oh yeah, I'm looking at Catco cats on ebay, are they worth getting or no?
