So I pulled the fuel tank out of my newly aquired 93.its been sitting with a bad engine since 08.I didn't want to chance the new engine on a possible rusty fuel tank and the previous owner said fuel gauge did not work. Well, the tank is full of rust and the float was nonexistant . The tank is cheap enough but when I was pulling it the tank fell off the jack and ruined the connector on top.
My question is does anyone have a better source than motorcraft for the whole assy for 300$?
I can not find spectra premium offering the complete assy.any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Are you referring to the harness connector for the pump itself? If so, you can salvage one from just about any F-series/Bronco from 1990-96. The sending unit is available from several retailers for less than $175.00. The pump is another matter.
The connector on the fuel pump assy top was damaged.where the harness attaches.
I have tested the level sender and it is not changing resistance.the whole assy is trash.
I found advance to sell a nipendenso brand assy for 175$. I guess I cant complaign about that.
My plan just didn't involve this part in my budjet.
Hey fordman I'm in the same boat...I was searching online to see about just ordering a whole new unit from connectors down to mesh screen, but with so many options I'm not sure either on which way to go since I can't really afford a Motorcraft part myself...
If she's been sitting since 08......plan on spending alot more. My 93 was sitting for 3+ years........fuel pump was just the beginning!!! The fuel tank looked like a science project gone wrong!! NASTY!! Luckily, the engine turned out to be rear solid...good compression and no noises. Go through ALL the rubber and plastic hoses. Every time I touched one....it would fall apart. Take your time and pick one battle at a time!! Mine is sitting on stands right now in the garage......in the process of pulling the tranny. (Unforseen battle!!)
I decided to go ahead and do the exhaust and a solid axle swap while it is torn down.

Good Luck!!
I pulled the tank partially because the previous owner said the gauge was inop. I figured float was probably taking on fuel.
I worked at a restoration/hot rod shop for 8 yrs believe me I have seen many terrible fuel tanks from sitting lol. That brings me to the second reason..yea its terrible.
I am building a 97 gt40p motor for it now. I got a very nice core for 30$ from a friend and am just freshening it up.
I am afraid to even pull the wheels and see what the brakes look like..I need to at least repack and check front wheel bearings.
The rear is an open diff so when the weather gets decent I will run to the u-pull and get a limited slip out of an explorer to drop in it.
Its just going to be my daily driver so no crazy anything. I may even let my wife drive it once in a while lol.
