Im starting a new project.
Since finishing my mustang, I have a strong built 289 with a very aggressive cam, worked over heads and a strong bottom end.
Last week I picked up a brand spanking new Hughs C4 trans still wrapped in plastic that was over $1200 to the guy who initially had it built. So it makes since that after having carb and timing issues with the all factory less than 70k miles 6 banger that the Econoline gets a new power plant.
I do need a distributor (any recommendations are welcome). Im thinking about a petronix vaccum advance unit. I also need a torque convertor and a flex plate. I know I need the 28oz imbalance flex plate but do i get the 157 or the 164 tooth?
My plan for the econoline is to install the 289/c4 and also install a 2000 explorer 8.8 rear end with 3.73 gears. (this is what I did on the mustang and it is AWSOME) I am going to do a mini tub and flip the front beam. I want the paint to be a bright green with large gold flake. I have heard that I can us old bronco style headers and they will bring the exhaust right out behind the doors. I am thinking this or Zoomie style exhaust. I also must install A/C
so im looking for Ideas to make it outragious! But, functional! All ideas welcome, can you please help with the following
1 flex plate? which one?
2 Is it worth converting to disc brakes?
3 how to convert the column 3sp shifter to Automatic?
4 ideas on converting throttle to cable in lue of linkage
5 header idea
6 do I have to get a taller dog house? i know i have to expand the rear
7 radiator ideas which is best
Thanks Guys
Yes, you will need the taller dog house they used from 1965 to 1967. Chevy makes a nice tall dog house too.
Besides Vic, you can get the disc brakes from Dean D & D Disc brake kits, convert your econoline drum brakes to our disc brake kit for a great price
