Newbie introduction, East Bay.

Hi all.

Just joined yesterday. Bought a 1960 F100 stepside that is being shipped and arrives Friday !!! It has a 292 Y block with a 4 speed manual transmission. I have the VIN but not the rest of the numbers for her yet, so would also like to do some research on her. I do know she was manufactured in San Jose which is great.

So,, I wanted to say hi, I am based in Martinez , East Bay and wanted to get myself ready for her arrival by getting a few bits together to give her a once over when she gets here.

Can anyone help me with advice on where I would get small things like oil filter, air filter, etc ? I've tried autozone and the like but nobody carries the oil filter in stock. Also any other filters I should change , fuel ? Cabin, sorry if those are silly questions, this is my first old truck so I don't know what's really consumable and would need changing.

Again This is my first F100 so any advice on her and things to look out for would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance. I'll post pictures once I get her and start my list of things to be done.

Richard.

Hello and Welcome to FTE , Monument Auto may have what you need, have you tried Napa or Auto zone?

Welcome to FTE DivingJack. I am sure you will enjoy your stay here. You might want to check out the early Ford forum on here, they may know where to get the filters you seek.

Hi, yes sorry, been a mad week with work. Yes it turned up, spent a bit of time and money down at Monument auto, very knowledgable.

So I did a mini service, oil, filters, plugs etc. she runs fine, does have a few oil leaks that I want to get sorted. First idea to do this is clean the engine as much as possible , another purchase , hanging cleaner from Monument, lol, and see if I can see where the leaks are coming from. I can't imagine it is anything too bad. But if I can't find it that way, I'm going to have to find/ rent an engine hoist from somewhere, whip it out and do it that way.

So as hi was saying, it drives fine, I don't know if it was normal back then, but the 4 speed manual transmission has no synchromesh on 1st and 3rd so need to be careful when changing from second to third. Everything else works, wipers, fan, lights etc. she has a dual exhaust on, I am guessing after market as it looks like it has glass packs under the bed. Going to need to get all the old wood out of the back and re do it with new wood etc. someone already upgraded from a generator to an alternator. She came with 2 sets of wheels, so will probably get them sand blasted and power coated at some point.

One thing I really need is a bench seat, it has some other seats someone has put in, they are really low, soft, not nice, but mainly really low, I'm not short but I need to put 2 cushions on the seat to be sat high enough to be able to turn the wheel .. Lol..

But I can see this is going to be fun.. Any advice on anything , and I mean anything, feel free to share,,,, especially for advice on where to get a bench seat :-)

I'll try and post some pics tomorrow.

Thanks

Great looking truck! I always liked the style of those years. Patina like that on a straight body is too cool. Ditch the white spoke wheels in favor of some nice tall pizza cutters, IMHO.

Thanks for the pics. I thought the hood badge indicates I6, but you mentioned a 272? Is it original? Oil bath air cleaner?

For the seat do you want stock or ?

Got yourself a nice ride!

Thanks for the comments, I didn't know the hood badge indicated what engine the truck had !! See I'm learning each day.. So she has a 292Y block that looks pretty original.. Maybe the hood was changed if the badge is incorrect ??

I don't mind if I can't get a stock seat, but I do want a bench seat back in her for sure.

Thanks
