Ok,,, I bought this thing a while back, clean 91 E350 7.3 130XXX miles, new brakes, new radiator, pretty clean old van, thought I might use for our BBQ/Catering business we do part time (it is for sale, the BBQ Business). Well, money, being as it is, never enough comes off the tree in the backyard, I just haven't done anything with the ol'Girl other than clean her and start her up every week and driver her around. So, my question is, is a van shell worth anything? I am thinking of taking the 7.3 out and ditching the rest, the van has 130xxx on it, and is in great shape, but it has the E40D trans which only has 1st and 2nd working. We really haven't done the BBQ/Catering because we adopted 2 more kiddos, and them dang kids take time and money non-stop!
I have a 63 F250 4x4,,, was really pondering putting the 7.3 in it, maybe with the E40D or not, but I hate to trash a great van body and brakes because I took the engine out. For ya'll in the rust belt, would it be worth it to you guys w/o an engina? Here are pics, give me thoughts
I'd love to have that van, with or without the engine & transmission. But I don't have the cash to buy a van right now. Let alone buy one and pay to ship it here.
Instead I'm going to sink probably around $2500 ( a little at a time ) into my rusty bucket of a Clubwagon.
From your photos that's an exceptionally nice '91. We who live in the land of 4 seasons might be highly interested however the logistics of transportation might be the deal killer.
Adding to that is the chassis is built to accommodate the 7.3 which might complicate any other engine being transplanted. Not being familiar with diesels in comparison to gassers when swapping one for the other so I might be on the wrong track there.
It would be a shame to trash or scrap that body less the engine---is it possible to just sell it complete and use that money for another engine for the '63 F250?

Thanks,,,it is super clean and nice, and I like the van, just can't seem to find the benjamins to get the tranny done. John Woods said about 1800 for a bulletproof one,,, so then I would have just doubled my investment in the van,,,and I don't really use it or need it, just kinda bought it on a whim when I had a few extra bucks.
With only having 1st and 2nd working, is it worth trying to get my 1800 back out of it?

That's not an issue. As long as you've got the correct motor mounts & frame perches you can mount any engine that was offered in the 75-91's into the diesel van chassis. Depending on the engine you might have to add a remote oil filter mount set up.
And of coarse all the issues with any engine swap ( Fuel, exhaust, wiring. etc. ) . But around my area it would be well worth the hassle to start with a nice solid van like that.
I think you could get your investment back. My dad bought a van to build into a camper for tractor shows. Yours would be a much nicer start. The transmission is an easy fix.

Very true----its a nice enough early E350 and if someone can deal with the shipping/transport logistics it might be worth at least $1,000 w/o engine & trans here east of The Rockies.
For example someone with a trashed body but good drive train this would be a great catch---not many of that era in such good shape here.
Yep,,, thinkin about just listing it whole on CL, I would love to keep the 7.3 but I think it will be worth more complete and at least drive-able ,,,unless the money tree starts sprouting here right directly with all this rain!!
And as a heads up, I think I am going to go ahead and list it on CL for $2200 and see if I can get sold, and as suggested, use the $ for the engine in my 63 rather than mess up a perfectly great Van!
I would personally buy it and stick a good 7.3L back into it for work. I can get a working 7.3L for about 800 bucks. Definitely a good investment for several types!
