Have you checked your fluid level ? A leak will cause the switch to trip and turn on the light . Parking break switch may cause it also .
The fluid level is full as i just bleed the brakes on the truck. and from what I can tell the parking brake switch is making contact. This is actually on an 86 f-250 that i just got done doing powerstroke swap on and used all the wiring from a 95 powerstroke. Will the ABS module make the light come on? I didn't hook that up to this truck. I did plug it in just hanging there but the light was still on.
Doing a swap ey ? All norms out the window without seeing what you have done . Could be the prop switch , or something you have / have not wired in . Didn't think the 86 had abs , may be wrong though . The Park brake switch should be open ( I believe ) if not set .

Yeah actually just test drove it today for the first time. But basically think of it as a 95. I have the complete harness front to back including the steering columb in the 86 from the 95. There is no 86 wiring anymore. Your right 86 didn't come with abs but the 95 did. I had to use the rear axle from the 95 for the vss in it for the spedo and to shift trans. There was no actual proportioning valve on the 95. the fronts have a "T" and the back brake line runs through an abs hydraulic unit.
here is a pic of that unit. Just in from master out to rear brakes. I plugged it into the harness but brake light still on
Sharp truck; I LOVE how they two-toned the '80-'86 generation.
* PRIMARY reason for the warning light is hydraulic failure. When this happens, DON'T drive the truck.
* ABS problem, missing RABS valve, will also set it. ABS module inside the cab is probably detecting no hydraulic presence (even when you plug it in as a dummy).
* Vacuum failure will set the light.
* And of course, the parking brake pedal has a switch on it that sets the light.
Truck has the '95 dash? More **** pics required.....
You should take it into the dealer, pop the hood and request that they do the cruise recall, just to see the looks on their faces.....
I actually still have the 86 dash cuz i liked the look of it more. I did a lot....A LOT!! of cutting and fabing. I grafted the gauge clusters to use the 95 gauges in the 86 dash.
Here's a few pics:
I have a ton of pics of the build i still need to upload and share.
Holy NED, that dash is a little rough, but effing ingenious. How are you running all the indicator lights (directional callouts, WTS, WIF, etc.)?
I'm picturing the dash in my '85 IDI, with its misearbly unreadable dials, and looking at your truck, and thinking........
Yeah I was pissed when I cracked that but already got a new one coming. I have the original 86 turn hi beam and brake light wired into the 95 harness. The WTS ect are in their own cluster and mounted lower left of column where the small storage compartment was. I think where the idi lights actually are.
