I have a 2001 F250 that runs great. Never gave me any problems but after having it for almost 14yrs, I have the itch for a new truck. My truck rides so good that every time we go to the hunting camp, they want me to drive. Brother-n-law has an 06 and his son has an 08 Dodge. My truck gets better fuel mileage than both, so I must be crazy. I sure don't need one or really want a note, but I love the way the new F250's look compared to my old truck. Then I go to a dealer and they insult me with such a low trade in value.
Well, if you want a new truck that bad then I guess you could buy one but don't trade your truck in on it. The dealership may give you 6-8 grand for it but that's really not much when you are looking at a truck that could cost you 55-70K depending upon what you want. Do a few upgrades to the one you have and you will forget about the new ones for awhile or better yet, set aside the 1000.00 or so a month for a truck payment and see how that feels. Remember, just to upgrade the standard engine to a diesel in a new truck would cost more than your current truck is worth.
Yes.... the allure, smell, quietness, ride of a NEW truck.... so to try an keep you off the ledge (hahhaa.. good one tScottDU)...back away slowly.....What mods have you done to your truck? I am just so old school, I love my OBS trucks, anyone can buy a new truck, it takes true commitment to keep older ones running well and it's not for everyone.
Obviously your call, if it where me I'd put some parts on it like bigger injectors, HPOP, Regulated return fuel system, intake, gauges, billet intake wheel to create a reliable 400 rear wheel HP daily driver.

For me, I get more enjoyment with money in the bank vs a truck in the driveway so I'll be driving my '99 until it breaks down or is worn out. So far no signs of either situation yet so I'll just keep making payments to myself every month and grow my 'vehicle fund'.
Over the weekend I stopped to help someone with a rear tire blow out on a 2012 F-250. The damage to his bed was extensive...I wish I took a photo. The bed side was warped and dented in front and rear of the wheel well. Even the bumper was kinked up about 2" towards the end. We had to pry it back down to get the tail gate opened. The amount of damage was amazing...he is going to need a whole new bed because it didn't look repairable to me.
I had a blow out on my truck once....it folded in the rear bed section behind the wheel a little bit, I was able to pull it back out with my hands immediately afterwards, hardly noticeable now. By wife backed into a small Mazda pickup at work. She caused $3500 in damage to the Mazda. Her bumper didn't even scratch...just cleaned off some of the dirt. They don't make them like that any more....
Way back in 2003, I added the Bank's 4" exhaust and turbo upgrade. About five years ago, I pulled the Bank's chip and did the Hyper-tech tuner. That removed the half inch delay in the accelerator pedal. The main reason I am thinking about a new truck is because it is 2 wheel drive, but I only got it stuck about 8 times in the last 14 years.

It only took once for me. Now all my pickup trucks are 4x4. I won't ever buy a 2 wheel drive pickup again.
Around 2 years ago, if something were to happen to my truck (stolen, crashed etc) then I'd probably look for another 7.3 in good condition and keep on trucking. Now-a-days, I'd probably get a new truck since some of the features are handy. However, it would not be a diesel....if I needed a diesel then I could always use my wife's truck. I would still need a truck for myself...just not a diesel. I'd lean hard towards a well equipped EcoBoost...those things are nice. If I felt like I HAD to have a Super Duty still then it would have the 6.2 liter gasoline engine. I could live with that one.

To answer your question, yeah, your crazy. I'll have had my truck 15 yrs this month and think its much nicer looking than the flat faced new ones. Mine now qualifies for classic tags and it does looks classic.
Get one of those $5000 tranny's and stop by the drive-line shop and have them build you a new HD driveshaft and rear-end w/ new tires and leather seats recovered (steering wheel to) and you got ya a new ride to pull your brand new boat to catch them 37" bull red's in, and you only spent 1/2 what a new truck would cost.
