Fair price?

I located a 2002 Limited 7.3L 4x4 this weekend at a local car lot. It is white, factory stock with no apparent mods, past or present. Paint is good, with a couple small chips, and one dent in the bumper. New tires. Otherwise it is a 9 out of 10 for condition. It has 69xxx miles.

I first found it online at a Virginia Ford dealership; and the online price tag was $24k.

The local place bought it from the Ford store, and put a $29K price on it.

Both of those prices seem rediculous to me. I know these trucks bring a big premium, but that is close to what it cost brand new on the showroom floor. NADA says the truck's retail value for this area is around $17k.

Does $29k seem like a fair price to you. I didnt get really serious with the sales guy, but he indicated they would not come down more than a couple hundred bucks.

For some reason, low mileage 7.3's fetch ridiculous prices. Oddly though.....at least around here, they sell.

I don't get it....nor would I pay it.

There was a 2003 7.3 five minutes from me for $14k....a week later it was in Texas and later sold for $22k

Brand new 7.3 limited ex's were only 30k in 2002?? The V10 Eddie Bauers up here in 2003 were like 60k with taxes in at the stealerships...

70k miles is nothing on a 7.3 when you look at some of the other user's mileage. However, it is a used 12 year old vehicle, so many people would probably have an issue putting 29k into such an old vehicle. I know that when my 6.0 was bought and shipped here it was 32k taxes in (not including shipping) 4 years ago from Texas. I of course bought it for a much lower price this year, but when bought it was a 2004 with 20k miles on it in brand new condition, so I guess you pay haveta pay to get what you want?

Invoice on that truck in 2002 was $40k, MSRP was $46, according to Edmunds. Yeah, my statement was a bit of a stretch; but it was only meant to show that I thought the price was high...not to be made into the focal point of my post.

They aren't cheap!

I looked all over my local area (So. Cal) for a decent 7.3 Ex. Anything less than about $17000 was junked with at least 175000 miles. A dealer had one with about 80K miles but wanted $28000!!! When I questioned him about why he was asking more than $10,000 over book, he got all pissy and made sure I knew he didn't need my business. I finally found one in Utah for $13800 and drove it home. Good luck with your search!

it's worth a solid $20-25k due to a ridiculous inflation people have given the 7.3 PSD over the 6.0

I'd look for a nice 6.0 down in Texas. You'll pay $10-15k less and have the exact same vehicle (well except motor/trans)

I don't get it either with the 7.3 prices

best of luck to whoever buys those with reguards to getting financing.

I wouldn't take $25K for my 2000 7.3 4x4 with 123K miles but then again it is not stock, has never let me down, and the family loves its size and comfort on road trips.

Wow... around here 6.0s are almost double the price of 7.3s and 7.3s are usually just only slightly more expensive than v10s.

Someone will pay it. If it were me, I'd locate a newer, low mile 6.0 for less cash and do what it needs for bulletproofing and still have less out of pocket.

And have a hell of a lot better transmission and more power than a 7.3.

Sorry if I came across as being critical, it was not my intention. I actually had no idea what a truck would go for in 2002! Up here in Canada people have always said that there was always a huge gap between US car prices and Canadian car prices, so I was just wondering if it was really that large. I was 8 in 2002 so wasn't really paying attention to truck prices at the time

Sorry for the confusion, goodluck finding the right truck for you!

heh.. I paid 9500 for my 02 V10 with 60k last year... I don't care how low the miles are, sitting around can be just as bad for a vehicle, especially since less maintenance is usually done as most owners think that mileage determines service...
