flooding carb

Grabbed the wrong elect fuel pump and "overcooked" my dual inlet Holley with too much PSI. It should only be 6 PSI and I put 12 PSI to it.

And now after putting in the correct 6 PSI fuel pump the bowls fill to the top and continue to overflow(motor not running of course) as the needle/seat float assembly apparently now not working.

I drained the bowls but still they won't shut off when i turn on the pump. Just comes gushing out.

I removed the plugs and disabled the ignition to pump the gas out of the cylinders and will change the oil as well, but how do I fix the carb??

Do I have to replace the needle and seats of the two inlets? I would think they'd recover and work fine with the correct lesser pressure fuel pump..But no.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Yeah, 'fraid so. It's not too terribly hard to do, the needle and seat assemblies are in the top of the bowls under those big screws and you'll have to remove the bowls to do it. You might want to check out this guy on YouTube, this the first of three videos where he rebuilds a Holley carb:

You may have bent the float where it contacts the needle [ float bracket hinge ]

I got the flooding problem solved. It wasn't a problem with the carb..it was just that I was repeatedly mistakenly installing a 12+psi fuel pump when I thought it was the low pressure 6psi pump.

The distinguishing color and markers for these Holley pumps is on the mounting collar and not on the pump itself, and because I've got steel fuel lines and a similar steel connected in line filter and such I don't like to misaligned connections and will mostly just loosen the existing pump collar and slide out the old pump and in with the new.

So its easy to screw up! Even twice .

In the future I'm marking the pumps PSI right on the body itself!!

Apparently there's no damage to this Holley carb from inputting this level of too much PSI..it just lifts the whole need and seat up and out!
The trucks running now and I do want to install the temp clear sight plugs and double check the fuel bowl/floats etc..but don't expect a problem.

Thanks for your comments
