I have a 2001 Explorer Sport 4.0 with 6800 miles on it (yes 6800I don't drive it much.)
I borrowed a Haulmark single axle motorcycle box trailer to haul my 750lb Yamaha Roadstar Silverado to the beach (250 miles)
Trailer weighs prolly 1800, bike 750 total 2550
I am using the bumper hitch it says 350 tounge weight I can lift the front of the trailer onto the ball so I assume I am ok here because it is squatting very little
I won't hurt this puppy will I?
What about the overdrive button, leave it in overdrive or out
Just had the oil changed today so we should be good there.
Indeed your puppy has enough muscle to drive in "D", only I should engage OD first when I reach cruising speed.
Also when the highway is not level and you notice a frequently shifting in and out OD, I should disengage OD to avoid overheating caused by the torque converter.
Greetz, Tony.
yeah i towed a 6'x9' u haul trailer loaded with my 94 4.0L EB and it was tough through the mountians but i made it. i would not suggest you use OD unless you get above 55 on the highway. stay in Drive as much as possible. and when you get back check the tranny fluid and filter and change it if it has not been done in awhile
