would a 8000 pound ramsey winch be able to pull my 77 ford f150 short bed out of some basic mud stucks? any one know much about mile marker winches? are they any good?

Talking winches

That ramsey will definately get you unstuck. The mile marker is a great winch, abuse it, submerge it for extended periods of time, and it will still work. I am just not happy with the low line speed, but if you don't use it alot that should not be a problem.

Good rule of thumb, winch pulling capacity should be at least 1.5 times the weight of the truck. No experience with Mile Markers. Lots of experience with ramsey winches. Use them at work every day. Replace motors about one a month. (10,000 and all they do is pull 3000 pallets up a metal 10 degree incline, not hard at all). There slow and the clutch system on them is junk. I'd go with a Warn, I have one on my truck and have just beat the daylights out of it. Its used almost every weekend for loggin and pulling hard on it most of the time.

Thanks

I'd guess a little under 5k?? I had a 79 longbed and it weighed about 5200 or so I think...maybe it was 5700?? You may be a little over 5k but I'd say around there.

Just go to the nearest truck scales and weigh it. That's what we all do around here.

Hey Texan, bet about 200 bucks seems cheap when your winch motor heads south or the gear train smooths off the cogs. Save for an extra month and get something that will work. If you look in the 4 wheeler mags and especially when they show that group photo of the top truck challenge, at least 8/10 are running Warn winches. Just my 2 cent uncle sam left of my dollar.

I can tell you from from experience that Warn is indeed top in their game. A winch is not something you want to cut corners on, unless you like spending the night out in the boondocks. Believe me, it ends up being too expensive to be cheap.

oh yea truck is 5100 pounds thinking about going with the mile marker e9000, what does everyone think of that winch. Also we are talking about a few mud stucks and hang ups, not real rock crawling or anything serious i don't get tons of time to 4 wheel and don't get stuck much

Forget the electrics- get a Milemarker! Electrics suck batteries dead, have to be allowed to cool, burn out alot. I've used my Milemarker weekly for years to drag HUGE logs into the bed and the only problem is that it'll drag the truck if not properly blocked
