I REALLY like the new truck - it looks good, runs perfect, pulls my 5er like a dream, engine sounds strong, quiet around town, all of the above..... BUT
When the 5er is hooked to it and I have to push a bit to drg it up a hill or something, it sounds like a HUGE hair drier !!!! or leaf blower !!!!
Sickening from someone who came from the rumbling big block era !
I didn't notice that on the 2012 250, but maybe I never had to push !
It couldn't have been just the MRBP filter back pipe I added on the end, could it ?
I know it's that processing plant of an exhaust system
and wondering what I can do...
that is, what I can do without disabling the epa-crapola and staying ok for warranty and legal for emissions...
You have a truck that is turbo with a big pipe. All its power comes from boost.... its going to whistle. Unfortunately diesels don't sound like big block v8s, they sound like diesels...
If you don't have a diesel (I don't know for positive) then you definitely should not have anything that sounds like a leaf blower going on under the hood
When you really get on the throttle with a stock 6.7 its sounds like some kinda of hair/leaf blower, lol makes pssssssssssssst sound. It's the exhaust flowing through the filter is my theory
Thanks for the responses so far....
my 7.3 TD just grunted and worked, even tuned not much difference...
my 6.0 TD was ok stock, then when I put the ez flowing downpipe back exhaust and tuned it, it woke it up and sounded great,
but the 6.7 with the processing plant of scr and dpf and epacrapola for an exhaust is terrible...
And you may be right, if I get a 5" dpf back extension,
the change in diameter may slow the exit speed down and lessen the blow drier sound..
Not sure what ford was thinking taking away a v8 rumble... because it's a safety issue !!!
it's too quiet and pedestrians won't hear me coming !!!
OR maybe they want us to buy into this: Lotus Sound Synthesis technology can give electric cars the rumble of a V8
or this:

Depends on your dealer.....will he turn his back on the changes you make and keep you under warranty or will it be a problem? You may end up asking your dealer what mods you can and can't do.
My guess is your going to have to get used to it until your warranty expires.
I kinda like hearing that turbo spool up. It's the sound of power being made. This truck is the 4th vehicle I've owned with a turbo. Do I like the roar of a 460 with dual glass packs pulling a load - oh yeah!! It is what it is in the world today to satisfy the econuts
jsut get a tuner with the lope idle on it.. problem solved.. LOL.. bigger exhaust will cut back on the sound a bit, but with all the gvmt req.. its hard to get past it..
I'm thinking your DPF-back MBRP is the cause of it. You're magnifying any noises that the engine makes with that pipe, and you don't like how that sounds.

I don't have a diesel, and it most certainly sounds like a leafblower. That or a pissed off vacuum cleaner when under load. I just roll the windows up and deal with it.

For you yes... your F150 is turbo... there is no turbo motor other then the diesel for the 3/4 1 ton chassis... But for the OP a leafblower noise would be an issue.
Not trying to cause issue, just assuming hes talking about his new super duty.
I posted down in the 6.7 forum to hone in on my particular engine and exhaust issue since it's the only engine I have in the truck...
let's see what those chaps have to say...
