Angry 460 won't start

I just finished getting my 460 into my 78 F150 Supercab... and the darn thing won't start. It turns over real hard, the battery connectors and wires get red hot, it belches white smoke thru the carb... what is wrong? I know its something with the timing, but what? The timing marks, piston, and distributer rotor all line up where they should at TDC, Any ideas? Could i be 180 degrees off? Anything will be helpful.. thanks

It is possible. Remove the #1 plug(the front on the passenger side), Put your finger over the hole, bump the starter over until the compression blows your finger off of the hole, line up your timing mark at 0. Check and see where the rotor is pointing. If it is at #1 plug wire, it may be wires in the wrong direction.

Remembre that the distributor turns counter clockwise when you check your firing order
