1965 F-100 Basket Case

I will start by saying I am only ankle deep in this project so far! But I dove in head first. The truck is a total basket case, lots of missing parts and pieces. I just couldn't see it go to the scrap pile,so I grabbed it. This will be my second Slick I have done,I had another 65 F-100 I did when I was 16. I owned that truck for 25 years. So it was time to get another one going.

The plan for the build will be a Crown Vic front and a T-bird Rear, with a 4.6 auto. Yes I know its all been done before, but its my first time doing it. So far I have the CV front and I picked a 91 T-bird with a bad trans,so I just have to drop the rear out.

I will be posting up pics as I go! any advice from the guys who have done this before would be much appreciated.

Floor pan is same through 79. You might come out ahead finding anther cab to cut floor from. I cut a whole section from under the seat up to firewall seam to use as a replacement from a 76 donor that I had.

Being that your floor is only bad on the floor itself from what Im seeing, Id suggest just getting the repair piece, or if you wanted to really save some cash, just replace the bad sections with a piece of 18 or 20g steel. Is the floor rusted badly under the seat?

The cab mounts are junk too from what I can see. Make sure you buy the one that looks exactly like the original. The others ones are a massive PITA, and require a fair amount of trimming and shaping to get them in place. I know, Ive done that exercise in futility.

Lower door pillar looks sketchy as well. Is it all the way rusted thru? If it is, they do make replacement pieces for that area.

Dash speaker hole is up to you. If you want to keep it stock, then you gotta fix it. If you dont care, just weld a piece of steel in and eliminate the speaker hole.

How are your cowl drains and the area inside the door pillar?

Alot of that stuff can be fixed on the cheap with a simple sheet of steel, some elbow grease and a MIG welder. No need to go cut trucks apart and all the headache involved with that unless you absolutely have to. See the link in my signature. Ive been over all these areas, in detail.

Yes! Cab mounts are shot, lower door pillars will have to be replaced, and the speaker hole has to be fixed. Cab corners are gone also. I have found all the sheet metal at flashbacks. The crowl drain area is fixable. I have a lot of welding to do are find a new cab.

Bottom of the doors is rough, fenders are good and the bed is good. I have to find a radiator support also.

The parts from 321 came in for the T-bird rear end. Dave is a great guy to deal with there.

Next will be removing the cab and bed to start on the frame work.

Cab and Bed Removal!

I was able to pull the cab and Bed this weekend. The PO had already had the cab unbolted,so things went fast. I have a low ceiling in my garage so I used my cheery picker to lift the cab from the inside. I bolted some lifting eyes to the rear seat mounting holes, then hooked a chain to the vent opening in the front for a four corner pick.

The bed I used three chains and a cable to hook to all four corners to lift it off the frame. Next will be the frame work.

The cab isn't that far gone. I'd do Jowilker's advice and get a complete floor pan from an up to 1979 2 WD F100 or F250 and carefully remove the entire pan. An extended cab pan will also work. The corners are available aftermarket as is the Core support. Used Core supports are also available. Looks like a great project. Please keep us posted with progress.

I think I have a couple of pairs of doors if you need them. Let me know and I'll see what I have.

Well guys Basket case is on hold! My wife and I are moving. So until we are all moved and settled in the new place, all work has stopped. That also means I have to build a new shop. When the work starts again I will post up progress.
