SCT Help.

I received my "X3/SF3" tuner today. I bought one used off of ebay, and it was listed as X3/SF3 for a 2011 Shelby GT500. I plug it in and with all of the info I had on how to pull up if it is unlocked, it looks like it is an X2. I scroll to device info and select. Ser. Number and FIRMWARE info for device comes up. I select again and it swings back to Device info main page. As I read it, I need to update the firmware. I see nowhere on the SCT site to update an X2 9400. I plan to send this off for custom tunes and have no plans for the can tunes from SCT. But , I want to make sure it is unlocked before I send it off.

Any advice of help with understanding would keep me out of the liquor cabinet tonight.

INFO I used from another site.
"FOR THE FORD X3/SF3 3000/3015 AND THE GM SF3 3100:

* Power up the device by plugging in to either a vehicle's OBDII port or a computer's USB port. (usb cable not included)
* Once powered up, scroll all the way down to device info.
* Press Select on Device Info.
* Status will either be: Status: Locked or Status: Unlocked.

*This is the breakdown of what each one means:*
* Status: Locked - The vehicle is VIN locked, you need to either return the vehicle it is currently locked to back to stock, or you will need to call Tech Support and Get a Return Authorization and pay an Unlocking Fee.

* Status: Unlocked - Your tuner is not locked, go tune.

FOR THE X2 9400 AND THE SF 9415:

* Power up the device by plugging in to either a vehicle's OBDII port or a computer's USB port. (usb cable not included)
* Once powered up, scroll all the way down to device info.
* Press select, this will display firmware version and serial number.
* Press select again, and this will display the Tuner Status.
* NOTE: If it does not take you to the Tuner Status Window, and instead kicks you back to the Device Info Screen, Your Firmware is Old and will Need to be Updated to check the status. There is an FAQ section for this. Status will either be: Stat=Stock, Stat=Aftermarket, or Stat=Unused.

*This is the breakdown of what each one means:*
* Stat=Stock - Your tuner is half locked, but fixable. Go the the tech support page, select the Ford Xcalibrator 2 in the first drop down, select Device Update Software in the second drop down and hit Search. Download Liveload 3 by clicking the "Click Here to Download" next to it. Install this application, once installed open it up, plug in the X2. The program asks the X2 to be on the main menu. Program Vehicle is the main menu of the X2s. Press the unlock button within the liveload application. This will change the status to Unused and the tuner will then be ready to tune a new vehicle.

* Stat=Aftermarket - The vehicle is VIN locked, you need to either return the vehicle it is currently locked to back to stock, or you will need to call Tech Support and Get a Return Authorization, send it the Device and pay an Unlocking Fee.

* Stat=Unused - Your tuner is not locked, go tune.

FOR THE LIVEWIRE 9600/6.4 9621/6.4 9623:

* Power up the device by plugging it in to either a vehicle's OBDII port or a computer's USB port. (mini-usb cable included)
* Turn the wheel so that you are looking at Dealer/Device Info. (The Icon is a Question Mark)
* Press the wheel while on the Question Mark.
* Look for "Married Status:"
* It will either say: Married Status: Unlocked or Married Status: Locked.

*This is the breakdown of what each one means:*
* Married Status: Locked - The vehicle is VIN locked, you need to either return the vehicle it is currently locked to back to stock, or you will need to call Tech Support and Get a Return Authorization and pay an Unlocking Fee.

* Married Status: Unlocked - Your tuner is not locked, go tune.

IF THE ORIGINAL VEHICLE IS NOT PRESET, READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS

To get the unit unlocked you will need to contact our Tech Support staff over the phone and they will instruct you on what you will need and the information we will need so you can send your device in to us for unlock. The cost to unlock the unit is $150.00 "

If it is in fact an X2, then it does sound likes out of date. Hopefully you didn't may much for this item.

X2 product support page:

If you can post pictures of the tuner and what you are seeing that may help point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the info, I just did not understand how their drop downs worked.
I see that it is an SF3/X3 but I did not update yet.

OK, I am looking at tunes from Innovative or Gearhead.
I plan to call both when they open this morning, but does Gearhead have a JAKE BRAKE tune to add like Innovative does?

How do they do the programs on my SF3? Do I mail it to them?
Do they mail me a disc?
Or do they email a program that I can download?
Do they send it to a dealer near my to download onto my SF3?

I would recommend Gearhead tunes. I've been happy as heck with them!

They will e-mail you the tunes so you can download them to the tuner and then flash the truck.

Side question, but relevant...

To use the jake brake option, don't you have to have an exhaust brake installed? Or is the Jake brake different?

Ive used innovation, gearhead and backroadperformance. I would go backroadperformane because drew is good and alot cheaper. If you want to go gearhead or innovation I would go gearhead. Matts tunes seem to be easier on the transmission. But I would still go with drews over all of them.

Well, I got my Device Updater loaded. Java problem on my end. Installed Driver for SF3. It see's the device and all data. When I go to automatic update, it stops after "scanning Device files". I also went to "update firmware" and the SF3 will not go into Firmware Mode. I held down the Cancel buttom for even up to 10 seconds and it just comes back to main screen. I am starting to fear my SF3 is locked, but still can not confirm even that , as the device does not show Locked or Unlocked on any screen.
Any help or ideas?

On this truck it's part of the transmission tuning strategy, aka towhaul. The jake brake doesn't work on a VGT turbo I don't think. It requires a relief valve and a non-vgt turbo.

Ford calls it engine braking I believe I use it on my truck. It is only engages when the tow haul button is on. I believe it downshifts the trans to engine brake unlike a true jake brake. But does work well for me.

I hate what EBAY has become!
I did the update. Took 2 hours and then see that the device is "Married". $175 out the door.
Filed with ebay and seller not liking my idea of a refund. I have a feedback rate of 702. Been on ebay a long time as seller and buyer, but I may be done with it!
