Been having trouble with my 92 F-150 5.8 E4od shifting into second when I take off. I can take off and it will not shift until I let off the gas, this is even at 30 or 35 mph. If I reset the computer codes, it shifts great for about a mile. Thought maybe the TPS may be the problem to begin with, but not sure. Replaced it a whild back, I can connect the old one back up adn let it dangle, the truck will shift fine, but jumps in and out of passing gear way to much. If I try to keep the rpms way down it will finally shift down out dead end street, but trying to get out of the way of on coming traffic is another story. No Service engine light. Any input would be appreciated
Bought TPS from Advance Auto, just not sure if its sensor problem or Tranny problem. If it's tranny why after I reset the codes it shifts perfect for about a mile then same old story, something gets set to cause it not to shift correctly.
Thanks
Ron
E4ODs are delicate. Sounds like you thought of a lot of causes. Here's one more to think about if you haven't already: voltage regulation. Keep in mind that E4ODs are very sensitive to voltage fluctuations in the electrical system...
Had a E4OD once that would get confused just like yours. Fixed it by good research and having a brother who is an engineer.
He explained how voltage regulators gone bad can kill an auto. All I did was replace the alternator (voltage regulators are usually built in).
Why was my alternator sour? Upper hose was slowly leaking fluid all over the alternator, in turn, killing the regulator. Stopped the problem for the 30k I put on the truck before I sold it.
