HVAC controls

A friend of mine has a '95 Econoline. The heat-a/c mode control turns the a/c compressor on and off, but the air flow is constant through the defroster vents. I can't seem to locate the flow control doors on the truck. Does the dash need to come out to access the doors?

take the vacuum motor access door off. it is located on top of the dash. there you will find two vacuum motors. i bet one of the vacuum lines came off or one of the motors has failed and doesnt hold vacuum.

The dash cover/pad is one piece. There are no separate openings except for the instrument cluster and the radio/hvac controls. I guess that means the whole dash has to come out. I wanted to make sure before I took it that far apart. Thanks for the help.

ok im thinking of the newer units. if youve only got defrost then youve got a vacuum leak somewhere in the system. it automatically goes to this as a failmode. but you shouldnt have to pull the dash to gain access to the vacuum motors. check behind the glove box. look good.

No glovebox. This is what gets me. Fords have always been fairly easy to work on, but not this van. I found one door at the bottom of the firewall near the right kick panel. I thought this one controlled temp. When I open it by hand it sounds like rushing air, but it doesn't change anything. I am going to try to look at a manual today.
