diesel newbie

I'm a gas motor man, but the wife wants to buy a used diesel truck. I know a bout the dependabilty of the 7.3's, but the newer ones have the 6.0L motor. I heard there were issues when this motor was introduced. What year of truck should we be looking for. Judging from the posts here, it seems to have a lot of no-start issues...Wife has her heart set on a Ford truck.need help...truck will be 4X4 and used to pull a 2 horse trailer...

I suppose it would make since to discover why she wants a diesel truck, and if she wants to maintain a diesel truck. Obviously we are going to be some what biased, but you need to decide if a diesel is right for you. The 6.0 really shines pulling a trailer over long distances. Short hops around town, and stop and go (IMHO) don't really do it any good.

6.0 or 7.3, they both break, and suffer from poor maintenance. I'm partial to the 6.0 because I like the transmission. The 6.0 was just a prerequisite for getting a truck with the torqueshift in it. But now that I have a 6.0, I personally have "grown out of" the thought that the 7.3 is a better platform.

With the Diesel engine vs gas expect to have 2X the general maintaince because the oil change is 15 qt for example. But you will have a lot more torque with the diesel. Fuel price right now is around 60-70 cents more for diesel cold weather has raised the price as diesel fuel is used for home heating. It is quite a decision but once you go to diesel you will not look back

sorry about the double thread...can I delete the other one? thanks for the replies. the truck won't be a daily driver, just in bad weather.she likes her Gran Marque too much....We live about 20 miles from anywhere, so no short hops... she's looking at an '03 F250 SD Lariat 6.0L 32V, auto ,with 131K on it. truck is beautiful, exceptionally clean and seems to be priced right. I don't have a problem with buying a diesel, just the maint costs involved. i own a Peterbilt with a Cat motor...just wasn't sure about the 6.0...
