Post Electric brake controls:

Does anyone have good information on the electric brake controllers used for trailers. For instance, who makes the best one, and what do I look for in one of these devices.
We have an Expedition with tow package and will be pulling a small drag car on a trailer. The approx. weight is 6000-7000 lbs.

Bob: I have been going over the same questions you have. I think years ago befor anti lock ect. Kelse hayse was the way to go ,however it had to be tied into brake line.
The newer controls use mostly INERTIA to sense the load. They also have various voltage settings to "tailor" the settings.
I opted for Tekonsha #9030 or 9015? (HAS led's. ) for setting s $69 --$90 Made in usa 2or 4 Brake. Most states req Breakaway switch also. Ck their web site.www.tekonsha. Informative. Can buy from them or most good trailer supply.
DO not buy one with Pendulim. Many offer many angle mounting selections.

PS Maybe this thread better suited under TOWING ETC.

have heard everywhere that the prodigy is the best.you don't have to set it every time you pull.
i have a sentinel and it just doesn't seem like it's made that well but it does work good they are made by the same company.
i will get a prodigy as soon as the wife lets me spend some money.

Search this forum for "Prodigy". You won't find much (if anything) posted bad about it. I think everyone that has one loves it.

I used cheaper controllers for years. Then I bought a Prodigy. Absolutely the easiest and best I know of. A bargain at twice the price! Bought mine on the web at www.rjays.com (Nice folks and A good place to get trailers and accessories.)

Bob, Prodigy has been mentioned several times as the best contoller on the market. While I have no experience with it the revues would indicate it is a very good controller with a happy bunch of users, but I will tell you not to overlook the Jordan Ultima 2020.

This controller does not work on enertia, but rather works via a bowden cable tied to the brake peddle arm. For years I used a 'cheapie' elctronic model that would jerk and pull, but once I installed the Jordan it was a real pleasure stopping the trailer ... a smooooth stop.

The Jordan may not be as popular as the Prodigy, but I believe this is because in the US the Jordan is only available via the internet (not 100% sure) from the manufacturer in Sarasota Fl. I bought mine at the CanAm store in London Ontario.

Good luck

I have heard great things about the Jordan controllers but I think ease of installation and simplicity are the main reasons for the Prodigy's success. Just plug it in and mount somewhere. No adjustment, no extra line to the brake pedal.

Do not have experience with the Prodigy controler but have used Tekonsha controlers on my last two trucks and have had no problems. Good Luck

I just bought a prodigy, but have not been able to test it. From what I have seen it is one of the best. The cheapest place I found to buy one is at truckxpressions.com

Just installed my Prodigy last weekend. Replaced a working controller because I didn't like the way it worked. Had I known it worked so well, I would have done it sooner. Let me make this Clear PRODIGY WORKS GREAT!

It was also easy to install as I just used the existing wiring for my old controller. I also heard for new vehicles, they make a plug in harness.

Currently have Tekonsha Voyager and it is OK. Wish I had the Prodigy. Go to www.woodalls.com and search the forum, click the magnifying glass and search Prodigy(check spelling) tons and tons of very good information there.
